The Division of Information Technology (IT) strengthens and supports the University's mission of exemplary teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service by providing the information technology infrastructure, software, hardware, and support to achieve the University's strategic goals. IT is composed of four departments which work with the university community to provide the information technology support and services required to realize operational excellence, integrate advanced technology, and create efficient and effective technology solutions.

Description of Work

The primary purpose of the IT System Administrator I role is to provide system management, troubleshooting, administration and maintenance for all IT related Systems that fall within the Administrative Computing domain including but not limited to the university Learning Management System (LMS). This position is responsible for the successful deployment and use of the university's LMS and is a primary resource for technical support and ongoing change management. This position is responsible for researching and planning for the long-term strategy of the LMS environment in collaboration with the functional department. Secondary purposes include identifying and implementing technological solutions with the goal of improving operation performance and efficiency; and meeting with end users to assess business objectives and define user needs. Additionally, this role will be involved in larger projects, team support & continuous improvement of products & processes. This is a full-time position with the possibility of a remote working arrangement.

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

  • Experience with the installation and maintenance of client/server and/or web/hosted software systems.

  • Strong analytical skills in identifying and resolving technical problems.

  • Basic networking and web server knowledge.

  • Strong working knowledge of web-based applications and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).

  • Experience with Banner, Structured Query Language (SQL), X/HTML, CSS, JavaScript (DHTML)

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms.

  • Excellent customer service and support-oriented approaches.

  • Confident in managing multiple simultaneous initiatives with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly dynamic, team environment.

  • Strong attention to detail.

Minimum Training and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and 0 to 2 years of experience in enterprise system administration or a closely related area; or an Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Network Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 to 4 years of experience in enterprise system administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation Management Preferences

Experience with Canvas or another Learning Management System.
