The Student Diversity Symposium is a daylong event designed to encourage and facilitate a constructive dialogue amongst students with diverse backgrounds. Topics are focused on diversity, inclusion and the future of the workplace with the support of Liberty Mutual leadership.

What to expect:

Students from diverse backgrounds, representing partnership schools from across the country, will travel to our corporate headquarters in Boston, MA for one day to participate in activities focused on promoting diversity on campus and in the workplace. Activities include workshops, job profiles and overviews, executive speakers, and panels, as well as networking and idea sharing with other students, Liberty Mutual leaders, and recruitment professionals.

Participants will have the opportunity to not only explore careers at Liberty Mutual, but also brainstorm new ideas to promote diversity and inclusion on campus, share best practices with one another from their own experiences, and ultimately return to campus with tools to start a constructive dialogue with their peers.

Who should attend:

Freshmen, sophomores or juniors who are actively involved with diverse or multicultural student organizations and have an interested in diversity and inclusion. Students should also be interested in exploring internship opportunities in Boston, MA / New England within the functional areas of analytics, actuarial, human resources, finance and accounting, sales and technology.

When is the 2018 Student Diversity Symposium?

The Student Diversity Symposium will take place Friday October 19, 2018 in Boston, MA. Liberty Mutual will incur all costs for approved travel, lodging, and meal expenses.


  • Be a current, full-time, undergraduate student in your freshman,sophomoreor junior year of study.

  • Have a strong interest in the insurance industry.

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Each WC has a set of Specialists who engage with families and the community in school registration facilitation, assistance, outreach, education and advocacy. Specialists serve as advocates, instructors, and facilitators for families and schools in meeting the district's goal of improved student registration with a focus on outstanding customer service. Specialists will work with families to ensure that well-informed school choices are made and that the overall registration process proceeds smoothly and efficiently. Specialists will have knowledge about schools and programs and will be able to assist families with information on bilingual, special, and regular education. One part-time specialist will be hired for the following satellite location: East Boston Welcome Center, 312 Border St. East Boston Reports to: Senior Director for Welcome Services, Office of Engagement, with direct supervision from the Satellite Center Director. Responsibilities: * Follow standard procedures for providing school choice, registration and related services to families * Provide families with accurate information and counsel them about making school choices * Acquire a knowledge base about schools and resources that will support and inform families in the registration process * Maintain appropriate written and computer-based records of all student registration related transactions in the Centers * Work as a team member with the other Welcome Center Specialists * Work collaboratively with members of the department to ensure successful school activities are implemented that maximize support for families * Provide school choice and registration outreach in a variety of settings * Develop a collaborative relationship with area schools, principals and headmasters * Provide information, referral, and follow-up support for inquiries and complaints * Work with other staff at the Welcome Centers during non-peak registration periods to provide services to school, families and the community * Perform other related duties as requested by the Satellite Director and/or Senior Director Qualifications: Required: * Ability to work two, eight-hour days each week, year round * Bachelors' Degree or equivalent education or experience * Experience working in an education, parent, community, and/or other similarly based organization * Experience delivering high-quality customer service * Understanding of and empathy for issues facing urban families * Excellent verbal communications skills * Ability to use technology to meet and expand the goals of the Centers * Bilingual with an emphasis on Spanish, Arabic * This position is subject to the City of Boston residency ordinance. * Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment Preferred: * Ability to work effectively with second language constituencies * Experience engaging parents, families and community members in an educational, parent, community, and/or similar organization Terms: Hourly, City of Boston Residency Required, 16-hour work week, to include occasional evenings or Saturdays; hours may expand as needed to include staff meetings or special activities.
