GardaWorld, an international provider of security services based in St. Louis, MO, is looking for an ambitious, talented, and motivated individual to join our Legal Department in the U.S. as a Legal Assistant. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel(s) (the "AGCs"), we are looking for a driven individual who comes from a fast-paced, performance-driven organization.
Summary Description
The Litigation Paralegal will work closely with the AGCs to provide support to the Legal Department, particularly the Employment, Auto, and General Liability Claims and Litigation Teams. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who is capable of working both collaboratively and autonomously, as this position is based at the U.S. headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Prepare, organize and manage an online database of claims and litigation files and ensure electronic and hard copy documents are kept up to date when cases are active and archived once closed.
Prepare and update reports of claims and litigation for corporate leadership
Gather evidence and documents related to new claims and litigation from various departments in the Company
Conduct pre-trial claim investigation and prepare initial claim assessments.
Manage claims handling process from initial intake to closing.
Meet with attorneys, clients, insurance adjusters and GardaWorld management and other employees to discuss claims and litigation cases or projects.
Research and analyze statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provide written analysis to attorneys.
Review and draft legal documents and provide support with general company secretarial matters.
Review and process invoices using Legal Tracker to the Accounts Payable Department.
Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on claims and litigation matters.
Schedule meetings and telephone conferences.
Identify and retrieve information necessary to support legal decision-making.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes and other related matters.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft office 365, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, and Teams.
Superior organization, administration and document management skills to undertake work in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Ability to efficiently manage time and priorities workflow to meet deadlines.
High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
Sound judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and Experience
An associate degree in paralegal studies or a related field is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
A paralegal certificate is required.
Some related in-house legal department experience is preferred.
Work Conditions
Office environment with use of office equipment, including phones, computers, copiers, etc.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be generally available during normal working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend work as job duties demand.
