Avalon Health Care is now hiring a Litigation Paralegal to join our outstanding team!

The Litigation Paralegal performs a variety of complex administrative duties and legal work for the Vice President, Legal.


  • Assists Vice President of Legal in all legal work of the company as directed.

  • Manages and maintains litigation files, responds to discovery requests and patient information requests.

  • Works closely with outside attorneys on litigation and collections matters.

  • Manages collection files

  • Responds to and manages subpoenas

  • Responds to and communicates with government officials regarding civil monetary penalties, document requests, and subpoenas

  • Prepares routine correspondence and transmittals.

  • Performs certain corporate tasks such as certain business license and registration renewals

  • Other duties as assigned by Vice President, Legal


  • Associate's degree/Paralegal certification.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a litigation setting or corporate legal department with a litigation emphasis; previous work in health care setting preferred

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and work in a fast paced legal department

  • Exceptional organization skills

  • Excellent computer skills i.e. Microsoft Office, including proficiency in Excel.

  • Must be a team player, willing to assist other departments as needed and perform administrative tasks as needed in addition to paralegal tasks

  • Ability to supervise and assist legal department administrative assistant

  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background test.

Learn more about this agency Responsibilities The duties listed here are expected at the full performance level (GS-11), if you are hired at a lower grade level, the duties you perform will be similar, but with greater supervision and reduced complexity. * Support attorneys in the review of bankruptcy cases filed under title 11, U.S.C. * Provide litigation support to Assistant U.S. Trustees, trial attorneys, and auditors in organizing and summarizing evidence and discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits to be presented in court, such as statistical charts, graphs, and summaries. * Perform detailed legal research of public records. * Examine case-related documents (e.g., financial statements, reports, inventories, invoices, and employment data) to determine relevance to the case and legal sufficiency. * Provide technical assistance in processing legal documents and storing and retrieving case information. Conduct conferences with debtors, trustees, and their attorneys to collect information and discuss compliance with advise on Title 11 requirements. * Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiate action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established court deadlines. * Track and monitor important case deadlines and inform staff about approaching deliverables.
