FTE: 1.0 FTE

LOCATION: Ormondale & Corte Madera Schools

WORK SCHEDULE: 186 Days per the 2024-2025 PVSD academic calendar

CREDENTIAL: The appropriate California teaching credential(s) authorizing the teaching of reading and ELD services to elementary school children is required for this position. Reading Specialist Credential required.

SALARY: The 2023-2024 Salary Schedule range is $82,130 to $137,250 depending on education and experience. Final salary for 2024-2025 will be subject to negotiations settlement.

  • $2,000 Stipends for MA, PhD and National Board Certification+ Comprehensive health and welfare benefit package.

Overview

The Literacy Intervention Teacher and ELD Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Educational Services, will work with classroom teachers to assess student reading abilities and develop plans to support students who need literacy intervention. The Literacy Intervention Teacher and ELD Specialist will work with the MTSS (Multi-tiered System of Support) team, coordinate services for targeted literacy intervention, and coordinate and deliver English language development (ELD) services to the District's English Learner students. They will also provide mentor support and instruction to teachers and instructional assistants in the area of reading acquisition and English language development. The Literacy Intervention Teacher and ELD Specialist will work with parents to develop reading intervention plans to complement the school plan for students who are in need of reading and language arts support at home.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1.Provide direct reading instruction for students who are not meeting District ELA standards.

2.Coordinate ELD services for English Learners, including delivering direct services and progress monitoring,

3.Coordinate and conduct ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessment for California) testing and reporting.

3.Contribute as a member of the MTSS team, including the coordination of assessments, interventions, and collaboration with teachers.

4.Assist administrators and teachers in designing appropriate intervention programs for students at risk of not meeting literacy standards

5.Provide professional development training and workshops appropriate for teachers and instructional assistants in literacy development, skill acquisition and English language development.

6.Provide leadership, coordination, and innovation in English/Language Arts Common Core curriculum and instruction. Serve on the District ELA Curriculum Team and assist with presentations to the Governing Board on successes and challenges with ELA.

7.Provide teachers with strategies to address ELA needs of advanced students.

8.Assume other duties relevant to this position, as determined by the supervisor.

Training and Experience

1.Minimum of three (3) years classroom teaching experience, preferably at the elementary grade levels.

3.Extensive experience in teaching literacy to beginning readers.

2.Valid Reading Specialist Credential required; advanced degree in reading desirable.

4.Experience teaching English Language Learners with a strong understanding of ELD strategies and best teaching practices.

5.Experience delivering applicable training and workshops to all teaching staff.

  • Indoor classroom and outdoor playground environment; subject to frequent interruptions;

  • Daily routine ability to exchange information via hearing and speaking;

  • Skills, knowledge, mental ability, and manual dexterity to carry out the posted duties and responsibilities of the job, interpret and implement school policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position;

  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time to monitor student progress;

  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels;

  • Ability to speak in audible tones so that others, including young children, may understand clearly;

  • Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by others;

  • Short term and long term memory ability is required in all tasks;

  • Situations may require lifting of up to 40 lbs. (light objects as part of classroom environment)

  • Seeing to perform assigned duties with or without vision aids; sitting or standing for extended periods of time;

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment (including keyboard) and perform the duties of the position;

  • Ability to bend, reach, walk, kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.

  • May be required to attend meeting outside regular school hours;

Licenses and other requirements

  • CA DOJ and FBI fingerprint (Livescan) process completed prior to the first day of school

  • Valid CA Teaching Credentials as noted above.

If required to operate a vehicle: Valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License, acceptable driving record and qualification for insurability by the District's insurance carrier
