Literacy For Life Adult Basic Education Instructor - Hampton/Newport News

Literacy for Life has recently expanded to serve adult learners in the Lower Peninsula. This 10-hour a week position is for an Instructor at Literacy for Life's Peninsula Center, 600 Butler Farm Road, Hampton.

• Prepare and teach 2 (1.5 hour each) in person phonics classes using the UFLI Foundations curriculum

• Prepare and teach 2 (1.5 hour each) in person reading classes

• Plan lessons which utilize a variety of instructional techniques, to include individualized instruction, pairing, group work, and whole class instruction (4 hours of planning a week)

• Oversee and manage any volunteer teacher aides in the classroom and ensure they have the teaching resources needed to facilitate small group and/or individual activities

• Maintain and report accurate learner attendance

• Contact students who have missed several consecutive lessons

• Ensure that the classroom environment is welcoming and conducive to learning

• Assist with intakes and assessments when needed
