General Information:

James Madison University's Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education invites applications for a full-time teaching position beginning in the Fall of 2024. This position is a one-year academic appointment with an opportunity for renewal.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. This position reports to the Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education in the College of Education, but is funded through partnership with the School of Professional & Continuing Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Teach four courses per semester (eight per year) within the field of literacy education for JMU's teacher preparation programs in elementary, middle, secondary, and special education.

2.Support and advise undergraduate teacher candidates as they advance their knowledge and skills for teaching literacy.

3.Contribute to the Literacy Program by supporting Program, Department, and College of Education initiatives, attending meetings, and serving on committees.

4.Engage in professional development opportunities to maintain one's knowledge about current perspectives and movements in literacy education, both at the state and national levels.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in education or a related field.

  • Significant and substantive professional work experience within the past five years in K-12 schools.

  • Current Virginia teaching license.

  • Preferred: current teaching licensure endorsement or degree as literacy or reading specialist.

Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
