Job Title: K-3 Literacy Coordinator
Reports to: Assistant Superintendent
Department: Literacy Curriculum
Work Year: 194 days (school year + 10 additional days)

Job Goal: The Westborough Public Schools seek a dynamic Literacy Coordinator (K-3) to build instructional capacity and coordinate and refine the district's ELA curriculum. The Coordinator will be a strategic thinker who poses a deep knowledge of ELA instruction and assessment practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master's degree in Reading or related discipline from an accredited college/university strongly preferred
Professional Certification Required:
MA DESE Supervisor/Director License
MA DESE license in Reading
SEI Endorsement
Additional certification in special education and/or ESL highly desirable
Hiring Requirement:
Successful completion and approval of DESE mandated Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
Other Qualifications:
Five years of elementary classroom instruction
Demonstrated knowledge in literacy instruction and assessment practices
Experience evaluating and coaching teachers
Strong writing, communication and presentation skills
Effective interpersonal skills
Specialized Knowledge: child development, curriculum frameworks, literacy practices, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-bias instruction, co-teaching, social-emotional learning, technology integration
Preferred Experience:
Experience teaching English Language learners and in a diverse public school setting
Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
Strong background in literacy instruction
Highly desirable to have experience with:

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Support meeting the needs of all learners. Collaborate with the special education, ELL, and reading teachers to maximize inclusionary practices. Coordinate literacy support programs, such as after school and summer school. Collaborate with Tiered Instruction Teams.
Provide professional development on literacy. Plan and provide site-based and district literacy professional development for teachers and support follow-up implementation by visiting classrooms and consulting with teachers. Stay abreast of current research and practices by participating in professional development and networking professional growth groups in the area of literacy.
Coordinate and lead literacy curriculum and instruction. Ensure curriculum alignment by coordinating the literacy curriculum, instruction, and assessment expectations. This will be done through explicit documentation and regular meetings with grade level teams, reading teachers, and building administrators. Prepare a variety of documents, reports and written materials for the purpose of communicating information to parents, staff, administration and the community. Collaborate planning and implementation of site-based and district literacy initiatives with the building Principals and the Assistant Superintendent. Consult with the building Principals in developing and managing the school's literacy supplies and materials budget.
Evaluate and analyze effectiveness of literacy curriculum and instruction. Assist in the evaluation, analysis and interpretation of the data with reading teachers, building principals and classroom teachers. Prepare an end-of-the-year report for the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to provide the necessary information for program initiatives and system guidelines. Lead the evaluation of the literacy program and identify, recommend, and model the use of support materials to meet the needs of all learners.
Maintain and improve professional competence through active participation in professional development activities, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for licensure recertification
Share responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her/their department and school district, and actively participates in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
Any other relative duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Literacy Coordinator is responsible for supervising and evaluating Reading Teachers, and for supporting the principal in the supervision of classroom teachers.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary, benefits, and responsibilities commensurate with experience and per the WPS Administrator's contract.
