SALARY RANGE: $43,753.00 - $52,220.00 USD Annually

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicants education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A Liquor Board Inspector I receive training in and conducts routine inspections, investigations and observations of Baltimore City bars, restaurants and related establishments licensed for the public sale of alcoholic beverages. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Work is performed under the close supervision of a technical superior. Employees in this class work a variable workweek that involves weekend, late evening and early morning hours.

Work is performed in various City neighborhoods where such conditions as the seasonal extremes of weather are encountered. The work involves long periods of standing and walking.

SELECTION PROCESS

All candidates indicating the minimum qualifications on their applications will be placed on the eligible list without further examination. The training and experience of each candidate will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED Certificate.

OR

NOTES EQUIVALENCIES - Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and comprehend the rules and regulations governing the public sale of alcoholic beverages as embodied in Article 2B-Alcoholic Beverages of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

  • Ability to read and comprehend the rules, regulations, processes and procedures governing the inspection, investigation and observation of Baltimore City establishments licensed for the public sale of alcoholic beverages as embodied in the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore City.

  • Ability to identify violations of liquor law regulations and statutes pertaining to the public sale of alcoholic beverages based on on-site visits.

  • Ability to write accurate, clear and detailed investigation and violation reports.

  • Ability to testify in local, State and Federal court and at Board of Liquor License Commissioners hearings as an expert witness on licensee violations of laws and statutes governing the public sale of alcoholic beverages.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with bar and restaurant owners and licensees, co-workers and law enforcement agencies.

  • Ability to maintain files and records.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
