Lion Leader Position Description

Overview: The Office of Campus Engagement and Leadership is looking for Lion Leaders to co-create events for incoming first-year students, as well as welcome week.

Ideal Candidate: Lion Leaders are collaborative go-getters who embrace active listening and spontaneity. They are adaptable, creative, and enjoy creating meaningful group experiences for MHU students. Becoming a Lion Leader is valuable experience for developing the resume-worthy skills of project management and public speaking while building relationships and having fun!

COMPENSATION

  • $2,000*

  • May 2023: $280

  • August 2023: $1000

  • September 2023: $720

  • Free MHU Swag

  • Free two accommodations for training retreat

  • Free housing for on-campus summer events

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at Mars Hill University

  • Be in good standing with the University (in regards to conduct)

  • Enjoy working with others

  • Interested in co-creating meaningful events

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Program Development

  • Attend training and planning sessions for Lion Life, ROAR, and Welcome Week.

  • Contribute original ideas for event programming that foster a sense of place, purpose, and belonging for a diverse student population.

  • Take ownership of specific facets of programming and follow through with assigned responsibilities on designated time frames.

  • Collaboratively plan activities by identifying desired outcomes, outlining time frames, procuring necessary supplies, and communicating with stakeholders.

  • Co-design programming that is inclusive to the varying backgrounds, identities, and abilities of MHU students.

  • Small Group Leader

  • Serve as a group small leader for an assigned group of incoming MHU students.

  • Remain sensitive to small group members' needs while modeling enthusiasm and openness.

  • Hold oneself and fellow Lion Leaders accountable for the goals, timelines, and responsibilities.

  • Conduct post-event surveys with small groups.

  • Consistently treat small group members and fellow Lion Leaders with respect, honesty, and kindness.

  • Event Logistics

  • Assist in setting up events.

  • Transition small groups between activities.

  • Help fellow Lion Leaders when day-of challenges occur.

  • Take pictures and videos throughout Lion Life, ROAR, and welcome week.

  • Help break down after and debrief.
