The Service Engineer (SE) Sr. Consultant Level II leads efforts to research, design, plan and maintain new or existing hardware and software technology components. The SE Sr. Consultant utilizes systems, scripting and developer skills to execute on tasks related to analysis, integration, and moderately to highly complex incidents and problems affecting production systems and multiple applications. This role also helps define and update items in the configuration management plan.
Leads and supports Linux, WebSphere (8.5 / 9.0), -&- Liberty Core application environments
Leads and supports IHS web tier and plug-in configurations
Leads and provisions environment management support for medium to high complexity projects
Provides application configuration management and server build out support with independence
Available for 24x7 production 2nd level environment support
Independently performs analysis/troubleshooting for environmental issues
Provides guidance and consults application areas (DCIOs), testing teams, and stakeholders
Provides automation and self-service environment improvements via scripts
Available for weekend environment management support (Functional/IS Rlse/ECC)
Guides junior level Service Engineers in process and procedures
Participates in Jira sprint planning
Prism time entry
Considered highly capable in the following skills & competencies:
Minimum of 3 -to- 6 years supporting WebSphere application environments (WAS ND -&- Liberty)
Strong experience with WAS 8.5/WAS 9.0 concepts, internals, & principles
Strong experience in Liberty Core concepts & principles
Experienced with large scale WAS environments and hosting platforms
Good experience with Linux server configuration management
Strong knowledge of IHS -&- app-tier configuration management
Strong experience with security related (certs, firewall rules, etc.) environment management
Good knowledge of GC mechanisms
Strong experience with WAS scripting using Jython/Python and/or Shell
Good scripting skills to deploy and monitor applications and configurations
Highly capable of supporting homegrown and vended Linux and WebSphere environments
Communicates ideas in a clear, concise manner both verbally and in writing
Education: Bachelor degree (or higher) or- equivalent experience
U.S time zone support shift required
Capable of working independently on project -&- support activities
Consistently plans own workload effectively and able to multi-task across multiple assignments
Good thought leadership and problem analysis skills
Highly experienced with Microsoft Office suite of tools
Fast learner / adaptable
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experienced with Jenkins, GitHub, Artifactory, and/or Ansible
Experience with Universal Application (UA) support on Linux a plus
Knowledge with monitoring tools (dynaTrace, DC Rum, etc.) a plus
Windows Server environment management a plus
Experience with Java development a plus
Agile Scrum experience a plus
