Axient/MEIS is seeking a LINUX/Cybersecurity System Administrator to join our Space Systems division.

MEIS (an Axient subsidiary) supports NASA Ames Research Center Multi-Mission Operations Center (MMOC). The MMOC is composed of the facilities, networks, IT equipment, software, and support services needed by projects to effectively and efficiently perform all mission functions. US Citizenship required.

What you will do...

Review Security Compliance reports:

  • Manage, coordinate, and implement software upgrades, patches, hot fixes on servers, workstations, and network hardware

  • Knowledge and understanding of security compliance programs and reports such as BigFix, SentinelOne, NESSUS, Enterprise data warehouse, Splunk Reports

  • Documentation of activities and risk acceptance requirements in systems such as confluence and RSA Archer (RISCS)

Create Remediation Tickets:

  • Ability to use JIRA and Confluence

  • Practices and processes used in performing work proactively documented in the MMOC enterprise collaboration workspace (e.g., Confluence).

  • Tickets in the enterprise tracking workspace (e.g., Jira) shall be resolved within 90 days of creation, unless extenuating circumstances are documented and approved in advance. Ticket status shall be updated no less than every 30 days in the enterprise tracking workspace (e.g., Jira).

Remediate Infrastructure Services:

  • Proactively maintain and develop all Linux infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service

  • Proactively maintain and develop all Window Server infrastructure technology to maintain a 24x7x365 uptime service

  • Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs

  • Maintain best practices on managing systems and services across all environments

  • Fault finding, analysis and of logging information for reporting of performance exceptions

  • Proactively monitoring system performance and capacity planning

  • Create and modify scripts or applications to perform tasks

  • Provide input on ways to improve the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of the environment

  • Collaborate with other teams and team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes

  • Design, implementation and maintenance of MMOC systems and mission sub-systems to implement overall enterprise and mission customer requirements.

  • System administration of all MMOC IT hardware and software assets.

  • Provide technical support to mission customers while maintaining a helpful, responsive, professional, and courteous demeanor always.

  • Deployment of COTS and in-house software into the MMOC environment.

  • Configuration control of mission IT resources.

  • Monitoring of IT security on MMOC assets, performing timely patching and backups.

  • Timely input, update and removal of property in the MMOC inventory management software.

  • Custodianship of MMOC property in coordination with the Logistics and Documentation Services Division.

  • Presentation of design, implementation, and configuration information at designated mission reviews.

  • Production of formal documentation of system configurations and topology to support mission requirements.

  • Regular backup and archive of mission data.

  • Technical design of new MMOC capabilities (e.g., data storage, computing resources, Cloud, etc.)

  • Represent the NASA and Ames on mission operations technical teams, as requested.

  • Creation and submission of procurement requests, as needed to meet mission requirements.

  • Creation and submission of change requests to the MMOC Change Control Board, as needed to meet enterprise and mission requirements.

  • Participation in mission meetings, providing technical input as requested.

  • Seek out and deploy efficiency improvements, performance upgrades, and cost savings measures for the MMOC system.

Skills you will need...

Required Experience:

  • 5 years working experience as a Linux Administrator.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or similar relevant STEM degree; Years of experience can potentially replace degree requirement.

  • Understanding of basic Cybersecurity requirements.

  • Knowledge of Linux: RedHat, CentOS, Debian, UBUNTU etc.

  • Hands on experience with MySQL

  • Familiarity with VMWare and SAN management and concepts

  • knowledge in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting

  • Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP

  • Software languages - Knowledge of shell scripting, C++, Java;

  • Firm Knowledge of Excel, Adobe, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, RSA Archer (RISCS)

  • Strong problem solving and communication skills

  • Onsite at least 3-4 days per week.

  • US Citizen

Desired Experience

  • Additional Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) will be considered an advantage

  • One or more of the following Certifications

MCSE(Microsoft Computer Solution Expert)

Linux+

  • Other Skills: Jira; Confluence, Cybersecurity, Mission Control experience is a plus
