Responsibilities

This Linux systems engineering position is responsible for the architecture of the high performance computing infrastructure. Job activities include designing, implementing, and maintaining tools and techniques that permit the automated configuration, administration, and maintenance of large numbers of multi-user high performance computer systems and software. The Linux systems engineer actively participates in the development and implementation of long-term strategies directly related to high performance computing infrastructure and architectures.

Key Functions:

  • Deep understanding of various Linux/Unix operating system internals with proven hands-on operational experience including kernel/system optimization and tuning of log collection mechanisms

  • Make informed decisions directly related to creating new deployment and administration best practices to architect new practice management methodologies for Linux based infrastructures and configuration consistency across multiple environments

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies a wide variety of off-the-shelf and open source technologies to orchestrate the provisioning of bare metal and virtual systems, software installations, operating system and third party application upgrades and patching, as well as the management of various technical computing software stacks

  • Utilizes existing and new tools and techniques for automated tracking and optimization of IT resources

  • Coordinates with support teams including network, security, application, customer, and relevant third party vendor teams regarding server, storage, and technical application architecture and deployment methods

  • Develop strategies and roadmaps in collaboration

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • 5 or more years or relevant experience (Linux) with Bachelor's Degree or 3 or more years of relevant experience with Master's Degree

  • Experience with current and state-of the-art computer technologies and experience building large scale Linux based infrastructures.

  • Expertise in supporting, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring Linux and Unix operating systems, hardware, applications across multiple technology stacks

  • Experience with IT automation and configuration management technologies such as Puppet, Razor, PXE, Ansible, or Chef

PREFERRED

  • 6 or more years of relevant experience with Bachelor's Degree, 4 or more years of relevant experience with Master's Degree, or PhD or JD

  • Excellent influencing skills

  • Must work well in a team environment

  • Must be detail oriented

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and projects

  • Must possess strong organizational skills

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects at one time

  • Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Customer service orientation

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, to self-initiate activities, and to work within timelines

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to use a computer to complete activities.

  • Ability to communicate with individuals and groups in person, by phone and telepresence.

Responsibilities Provide technical leadership, engineering support, and staff development to the Communication Systems Engineering Department (CSED) within the Communication Technologies and Engineering Division (CTED). CSED provides support to federal and commercial customers in the areas of design, modeling & simulation, and performance analysis and evaluation of communication systems. * This role can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist* Key Functions * Leading or participating in projects involving: * Digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms * Software-based communication system simulations * Space and terrestrial communication system architectures and tradeoff analysis * Communications link performance analysis evaluation * Hardware/payload design and evaluation * Provide project leadership across multiple disciplines, contractors and customers * Mentor junior engineers * Develop future projects and manage resources Qualifications Required * Degree from an accredited university in engineering or science. * Five or more years of relevant experience in the design, modeling, & simulation and performance analysis of communication systems. * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. * Demonstrated communication skills: The ability to present and communicate project results through briefings and technical reports, and to successfully interact with customers, contractor personnel, company management and subject-matter experts is essential. * This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. * Experience designing, simulating, and analyzing communication systems in the following areas: * Digital communication waveforms, including modulation, multiple access, coding, and interleavers * Digital signal processing algorithms * Signal acquisition and tracking algorithms Preferred * An advanced degree from an accredited university in engineering or science. * Experience collaborating with and leading multi-disciplinary teams that include Aerospace, government and industry representatives in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment. * Experience with and knowledge of: * Algorithms related to signal separation, beamforming, or geolocation * RF interference analysis and/or anti-jam/mitigation techniques * Space and terrestrial communication system architectures and tradeoff analyses * Link performance and channel modeling * Experience with and knowledge of: * Communications-related hardware, including antennas, RF electronics, filters, and baseband electronics * Communication algorithms and systems in hardware implementation * Hardware equipment operation * A current and active Secret government clearance with ability to obtain up to SSBI.
