Job Description:

Leidos is looking for a Linux System Engineer to join a dynamic Customer team supporting large, complex and secure environments. This position is located in the Northern Virginia area and requires an active TS/SCI with Polygraph in order to be considered.

Primary responsibilities include all aspects of the product development life cycle creating, implementing, and supporting new product features and capabilities; improving data processing methods; monitoring and tracking system performance via metrics; managing system access control and security; and systems support including maintenance items such as patching. The Linux Systems Engineer will establish and maintain pre-production environments and will assist in developing and implementing a plan to migrate existing applications from the physical server infrastructure to the enterprise level C2S platform. They will also be responsible for helping to support hundreds of Linux/UNIX machines, VMWare hosts, and EC2 instances in a hybrid computing environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a TS/SCI with poly to be considered

  • Bachelor degree and minimum 8 years experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Linux system administration and engineering

  • Experience with Linux CentOS 7, Red Hat 7 and/or Scientific Linux 5 (SL5)

  • Demonstrated experience managing backup and recovery and systems and data.

  • Demonstrated experience with configuration build support and documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and/or experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMware and/or other virtualization platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options and identify viable solutions.

  • Scripting experience

  • Experience with security standards, processes and tools

Duties Include: * The Linux System Engineer will perform administration, scripting and configuration of software packages on Linux RedHat, CentOS and other Linux based operating systems. * Review and test recommended updates to the operating environment for compatibility with internal applications. * Perform day to day application administration and configuration. * This position analyzes and resolves problems associated with the operating system's servers, hardware, applications, and software. Installs, configures, and maintains Linux operating systems. * This position is responsible for installation, configuration, and security hardening of high data flow Elasticsearch data gathering clusters with Logstash pipeline optimization programming to include Ruby programming and Linux syslog and Windows event message parsing to accomplish implementation of Elastic Common Schema. * Querying data to include aggregations, calculations, and producing metrics from Elasticsearch data. * Security Within 120 Days * Experience in RedHat Linux administration on RHEL6, RHEL7 * Linux scripting skills using Bash/Shell, Python, Ruby * Infrastructure planning and sizing Data modeling Data Quality (Aggregation, Normalization, Correlation) Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with architecting and supporting highly available, fault tolerant, and durable Elasticsearch deployments * Elastic search and storage architecture System Health Monitoring Desired Skills Essential Functions: Physical Requirements: Most work will be done at a desk or computer.
