What you'll be doing...

Verizon Business requires new skillset as we progress toward the launch of the Verizon Cloud Platform (IaaS). The responsibility is national in scope as you will work collaboratively with teams in each NEC, SAP site, various IT locations, as well as disparate team locations to operationalize general platform support.

You will collaboratively work on multiple large-scale projects with a high level of technical complexity that industry expertise and in-depth analysis will be required to ensure the right path is being pursued on behalf of the business units involved. You will assist to triage customer issues, document, coordinate, and support all escalation issues between tenant side and infrastructure side of operations. Additionally, you will work closely with cross functional team to provide feedback to resolve those issues. You will also advise on troubleshooting and the triage of problem reports, resolutions, and escalations as required.

  • Being the SME for OpenStack and virtual services integration across all Verizon applications. Your feedback and guidance is sought in all aspects of discussions for assistance with troubleshooting of various platforms, services across all network organizations.

  • Leading efforts to identify gaps in tools, projects, and processes and working to fill those gaps by working with internal organizations, the supplier (vendor), or by working with correct stakeholders to have the tool/process built.

  • Investigating any and all errors observed or reported technical project issues, and working with stakeholders in operations, and/or vendor to resolve issue/s or work new processes or project timelines to remedy the situation and/or keep it from reoccurring.

  • Participating in multiple parallel large-scale projects with a high level of technical complexity that industry expertise and in-depth analysis will be required to ensure the right path is being pursued on behalf of the business units involved.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.

  • Experience deploying OpenStack.

  • Experience as a support technician

  • Experience working with KVM, libvirt, VMWare, or other virtualization technology.

  • Experience with Linux systems administration (preferably in Virtualized environment).

  • Strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, Shell, Ruby, Perl, other).

  • Knowledge of IP networking, VPN's, DNS, load balancing and fire walls.

  • Experience working with solutions at scale.

  • Willingness to enhance team learning environment by providing and encouraging mentorship and technical leadership.

  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Ganglia, Zabbix).

  • Experience working modern configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible).

  • Experience with distributed storage solutions (iSCSl, Ceph, Swift).

  • Experience with networking concepts and protocols (include SDN, NFV).

  • Contributions to open-source projects.

The purpose of this position is to ensure efficient and effective operations of the City's mobility infrastructure. This is accomplished by implementing the Traffic Division work plan and Mobility Master Plan; providing exceptional transportation related customer service to answer questions, process requests and provide information; managing complex technical work pertaining to the installation, maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of Citywide traffic conveyance systems comprised of Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) including intelligent traffic control devices, pedestrian crossing devices, wayfinding signage, and robust infrastructure that communicates to vehicles; maintaining all City owned traffic signals and signs, pedestrian crossing, street lights, and other traffic control devices; participating in the Office of Traffic Management workgroup meetings and projects, and supervising assigned personnel. Other duties include providing complex support to the Transportation Manager and Director of Public Works. Essential Functions Demonstrates technical excellence and ensures implementation of program goals in conformance with established strategies and organizational expectations. Infrastructure Maintenance: Monitors the performance and condition of traffic control devices, signage and crosswalks and coordinates maintenance and corrective action as required; diagnoses, troubleshoots, and oversees the repair, construction, and design of ITS configurations for the City with other ITS partners. Maintains all traffic battery back-up systems, illuminated Street Name signage, school zone and illuminated pedestrian crosswalks including their operation and programming, overseeing the City's street striping program; developing and reviewing Traffic Control Plans (TCP) for City utility repair work; and working with City departments and non-profit organizations for the installation of temporary traffic control devices for City events, festivals and non-profit races. Traffic Infrastructure: Utilizes technology suite, software platforms and data applications to ensure traffic systems are operating in accordance with established parameters, key accountability indicators and goals. Evaluates data to identify trends to determine whether established goals will be met or if equipment adjustments must be made to improve mobility and exceed customer expectations. Work includes analyzing the effectiveness of intelligent transportation systems infrastructure and making appropriate modifications as needed. Plan Implementation: Implements operational recommendations in the Mobility Master Plan and the division's work plan, implements operational findings and recommendations from traffic studies, and implements alternative transportation initiatives. Works closely with the Office of Traffic Management to support traffic projects and traffic plans; works with the team to troubleshoot challenges and implement solutions. Equipment and Materials Transportation and Operation: Maintains knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of various types of equipment, materials and methods associated with public works functions necessary to support the review/design, installation, operation, repair and maintenance of traffic systems. Schedules and performs corrective and preventive maintenance tasks on components of the entire transportation notification network. People Management: Oversees assigned personnel by directing, instructing, scheduling, reviewing, and evaluating work activities; provides clear expectations; recognizes employees for doing good work; reviews work for quality; and encourages employee development and provides employees with opportunities to learn. Technical Knowledge: Maintains and demonstrates an expert level of technical proficiency required to complete assigned work, maintains knowledge and application of the National Electric Code (NEC), electronics and electric and electrical wiring theory, principles and practices, mathematical computations, electrical safety standards, policies and procedures and ability to interpret schematics, blue prints and wiring diagrams. Ability to apply this knowledge to diagnose and troubleshoot and repair equipment failures. Technical Inspection: Reviews contract surveillance work for compliance with contract terms and specifications, approves progress payments, and recommends approval of final payments.
