Job Details:
Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), an operating unit of Mercer University, provides high quality engineering, scientific, and technical support services to both government and private industry customers. MERC is recruiting for a Linux Systems professional to support MERC Network Systems. The successful candidate will perform server technical support functions for organizational and program management activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Resolves problems regarding Linux Servers and their integration within a Windows environment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with application software, and hardware operation.
System administration of Linux cluster systems.
Install and integrate software within a Linux cluster environment.
Manage cluster resource allocation and job scheduling.
Implement server disaster recovery schemes, system capacity planning, endpoint security, and user/system data management.
Enters commands, conducts server diagnostics, and observes system performance to verify accurate operations and identify errors.
Sets up servers, and peripheral systems to ensure proper installation and configuration of hardware, tape libraries, disk arrays, operating systems, networking devices, and software programs.
Assure scheduled Linux server, and other related peripheral patch updates for hardware, firmware, and software are maintained.
Executes Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) scans and maintains records of Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) to include findings, corrective actions taken, and reporting.
Application of STIGs to Linux servers.
Coordinates hardware and/or software resolution with users and management chain.
Communicates with users and appropriate management to establish requirements for problem resolutions, new systems, or modifications.
Responsible for support and execution of other tasks as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
US Citizenship is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.
An undergraduate degree in Information Technology from an accredited institution and at least 1 year of directly related experience; or a high school diploma and 4 years of directly related experience.
Demonstrated technical experience with Linux Server computer hardware, operating systems and application software, and its integration into a Windows environment.
Ability to install, repair, research, and troubleshoot server/computer hardware, software, peripheral devices, disk arrays, and tape libraries.
Experience performing systems and network troubleshooting of Linux systems.
Service-oriented; ability to effectively communicate and interface with users, peers, and vendors (written and oral).
Final rank will be determined on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
