About the Role:

Aquila is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations. You will assist with the development of new technologies that enable worldwide networked operations for the military and other government agencies. The division addresses the needs of next-generation satellite, airborne, and terrestrial networks using its core expertise in radio frequency (RF), fiber and free-space optics, cyber security, network protocols and services, information operations, communications processing, and speech and language technologies. The division is extensively involved in field experimentation and measurement campaigns to verify algorithms and architectural concepts in operational environments.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

What You'll Do:

Looking for a Linux Systems Administrator. This candidate will be working 80% on a Linux platform and 20% on Windows. Candidate should have in-depth Linux experience. A successful candidate will be adept at working within a small, fast-moving team.

Responsibilities:

  • Looking for a Linux Systems Administrator with approximately 5 years of Linux administration experience

  • Domains: IT Infrastructure, Networking, system configuration management, system troubleshooting.

  • Responsible for management, administration, and support of all the laboratory systems' infrastructure in the Group.

  • Support additional technologies as they are adopted by the Laboratory.

  • Responsible for vulnerability remediation on secure and unclassified Laboratory systems. Addressing Cat 1, 2, and 3 issues in a timely manner

  • Recognizing and troubleshooting issues with developer's machines as they occur across a variety of Operating Systems. Windows, Linux, etc.

  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5 years of Installing, updating, and troubleshooting systems/servers
  • 5 years of Linux server/workstation administration
  • 3 years of Understanding of bash and related scripting tools (shell and/or ansible)
  • 5 years of Redhat Enterprise Linux 7 & 8
  • 5 years of Redhat Linux Systems Administration
  • 5 years of Technologies including DNS, DHCP, Proxy, and Load Balancing
  • 5 years of VM Ware ESXi and Associated Management Systems

Working Knowledge of the Following:

  • Operating Systems: RedHat Enterprise Linux, VMware

  • Hardware: Dell

  • Software/applications: RedHat Satellite, McAfee; Enterprise Central Logging/Splunk, LDAP, VMware vCenter/ESXI/vSAN, Gitlab.

  • Networking applications and protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SSH, FTP, and HTTP/S.

  • Programming Languages: Ansible, Shell Scripting, PowerShell or Bash.

  • Skilled at centralized authentication (SSSD, IDM, Active Directory) and centralized sudo administration via IDM

  • Responsible for configuring and maintaining (physical and virtual) servers and researcher workstations

  • Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.

  • Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.

  • Plan, execute, and verify data redundancy and system recovery procedures.

  • Conduct periodic system maintenance including cleaning (both physically and electronically), disk checks, routine reboots, data dumps, and testing.

  • Provide ongoing optimization and problem-solving support

And These Skills are a Bonus:

  • Experience managing classified IT systems, STIGs, SCAPS, and RMF. This experience is a bonus.

  • Certification(s) in one or more of the following disciplines: Red Hat, VMWare, Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP); CompTIA Security+; Linux Professional Institute Certification. Candidates will be required to obtain a CompTIA Security+ certification within 3-6 months of starting if they do not have one when the assignment begins.

  • Experience managing system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.

  • Mac experience

  • Experience with virtual machines. (e.g., VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.).

  • Network administration experience is also desirable which includes managing data center and small network configurations: switches, routers, firewalls, modern software management and monitoring tools, and some knowledge of automation techniques.

  • Experience maintaining directory services. (e.g., Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP, etc.).

Location: Lexington, MA

Work Schedule: The candidate will need to be 100% onsite from the first day of the assignment. There may be some flexibility down the road but there will not be consistent remote work. Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

Travel: None

Clearance: Secret or above clearance is HIGHLY PREFERRED. Interim is acceptable to start though.
