The Job

In this position, you’ll be working alongside a great team of computationally-savvy engineers and scientists to support our company’s development infrastructure as a Systems Administrator. In this permanent, full-time position, you’ll be deploying and supporting Linux servers (physical and virtual), HPC environments, and desktop workstations. You’ll also have the opportunity to design IT strategies and influence company security policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Linux server and desktop environments, mainly Ubuntu
  • Design and maintain a working infrastructure for company software development projects
  • Maintain working backup procedures for mission-critical information
  • Develop solutions to enforce business rules and compliance with applicable regulations
  • Maintain logging systems and perform daily systems monitoring
  • Test infrastructure for vulnerabilities
  • Maintain central authentication such as LDAP

Minimum requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience supporting Linux servers and desktops
  • Experience setting up, maintaining, and monitoring logging systems
  • Experience with scripting languages
  • U.S. citizenship; mandatory background check
  • Be willing to relocate to Champaign, IL
  • Associates degree in computer science or relevant field

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud environments — SaaS, PaaS, AWS, Azure, etc.
  • DevOps
  • Ability to use and manage macOS and Windows operating systems

What we need to see: * BS or MS in EE, CE, CS, Systems Engineering and 4 years of experience in a related hardware/software position. * Excellent problem solving, collaborative, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with offshore teams preferred. * Strong C/C++ knowledge required. * Strong understanding of algorithms, computer architecture, silicon speed and power, BIOS, drivers, and software applications. * Familiarity with computer algorithms, object oriented programming, data structures, and design patterns. Confirmed ability to divide complex problems into simple sub problems and then reuse available solutions to implement the solutions. Ways to stand out from the crowd: * Experience with assembly and scripting languages like Python, databases, web applications are a plus. * Experience with multiple architectures (x86, ARM, Power) or multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS). * Proven track record of crafting engineering designs, negotiating them with teams, and bringing them to fruition.
