Linux Cybersecurity Engineer (Hybrid)

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs market research on new and emerging technologies, works with vendors to acquire sample hardware, and executes evaluations; documents test and evaluation results that compare evaluated technologies and provides recommendations to government customers

• Works with customers and vendors to generate customized configurations that meet customer requirements and vendor/industry best practices, and guides procurements through the acquisition process

• Designs and implements cybersecurity technologies incorporating these new and emerging technologies into existing customer environments; develops engineering artifacts such as drawings, system version descriptions (SVD), and system sub-system design documents (SSDD) to document new architectures

• Configures, maintains, and troubleshoots systems to comply with DISA Security Technical Information Guides (STIG) and Security Requirements Guides (SRG)

• Guides new systems through the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) process from beginning to end; participates in all phases of the process from categorization to self-assessment; assists the ISSM/ISSO and system operators with IV&V and continuous monitoring

• Works with customers to understand existing cybersecurity deployments and assist in planning and execution of cybersecurity deployments, migrations, and decommissioning

• Becomes a subject matter expert in relevant technologies to provide engineering and design guidance to customers and system operators; provides assistance to system operators as required and works with vendors to resolve problems

• Automates deployment and configuration using tools such as Ansible and PowerShell

• Independently identifies relevant technologies and develops new skills

• Remains informed about DoD cybersecurity policies, processes, and requirements and how they apply to relevant technologies

• Travels up to 20% to both CONUS and OCONUS sites in support of fielding and migration efforts

• Hybrid / telework / work from home flexibility based in Charleston, SC

MINIMUM SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Two or more years of experience in Information Systems, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

• Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for learning about and building new cyber security technologies

• Ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities in a dynamic environment

• Familiarity with core networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, IPFIX, etc.)

• Willingness to learn and apply new networking and cybersecurity skills as needed

• Working knowledge of Linux, with the ability to perform basic administrative tasks

• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new operating system environments

• DOD 8570 IAT II certification, e.g. CompTIA Security+

DESIRED SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Familiarity with Department of Defense environments, especially Navy/USMC, and the Joint Information Environment (JIE) is highly desired; experience administering and operating systems within these environments is a plus

• Experience with packet brokers (Gigamon or similar) or packet capture probes (Endace or similar) is highly desirable

• Experience with firewalls and intrusion prevention systems (Palo Alto or similar) and security information and event management systems (Splunk, Elastic, or similar) are also desirable

• Working knowledge of Linux systems and basic scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) is preferred, along with an aptitude for configuration management and automation.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Self-directed individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, readily adapting to changing priorities and embracing new challenges

• Industry certifications (Red Hat, Cisco, GIAC) are valued, especially RHCSA/RHCE, CCNA/CCNP, GCDA/GSOC, etc.
