Summary: The System Administrator is responsible for the installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of all Linux and Windows systems and related hardware infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Participate on a team supporting and maintaining all Linux and Windows Server hardware and Operating Systems, AWS cloud instances, SAN, Active Directory and related functions and services.

Provide strategic and architectural planning and vision for the Linux/Windows infrastructure.

Monitor the environment for performance and stability that meets Service Level Objectives.

Contribute to and maintain system standards.

Maintain system patching levels, ensure current system backups, and analyze systems for performance tuning.

Perform root cause analysis on incidents on supported systems hardware and OS/software.

Produce reports essential for proper management of the server environment.

Maintain the environment to satisfy the security requirements set by business drivers and the Information Security department.

Possess the ability to objectively handle escalation of reported incidents related to all facets of the server environment.

Work with peers across multiple business units.

Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

7+ years of experience with design, architecture, support, and recovery of Linux/Windows system environments. Red Hat Linux experience a plus.

Strong knowledge and understanding of centralized server management framework.

Experience in VMware server environments.

Experience with AWS administration a plus.

Experience with SAN administration a plus.

Strong working knowledge of networking architectures and protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.

A self-starter with good interpersonal skills who can work equally well with management, peers, and end-users.

Someone who can lead a team on projects and be a liaison with Project Managers.


Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred technical education or equivalent experience in the computer field required, with at least 7 years of experience in Linux/Windows server administration.

Basic Skills

Must have strong communication and phone skills, as well as excellent analytical and technical skills. Must be capable of explaining procedures in writing and verbally.

Must be capable of coping with pressure situations. Must have good planning skills, and work well with others in a team environment.

Responsibilities: * Maintain all TopWorx IT systems including hardware, software, network, ERP/MRP system, communications, messaging, printing, and data storage services. * Provide IT helpdesk support to all TopWorx users and support remote users and in-house visitors with connectivity. * Lead projects to introduce new IT system resources and services to accommodate growth and allow TopWorx to remain market competitive. * Ensure that all TopWorx and Emerson IT policies and standards are being adhered to and our end customer requirements are being met. * Administration and configuration of servers, VPN, Cisco switches, UPS, client PCs, and mobile devices. * Support of other Microsoft products such as SQL Server and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports. * Ensure that all scheduled jobs and reporting services on the servers run to completion. * Responsible for developing accurate business reports that fulfill TopWorx needs. * Oversee phone and security systems and assignment of company cell phones ensuring proper function and high reliability. * Evaluates IT vendor products and recommends purchases consistent with short and long term objectives. * Responsible for maintaining documentation and upholding helpdesk ticket system usage and metrics. * Maintains contact with outside organizations in the maintenance, service and purchase of IT equipment and software. * Ensures that all operating software in the plant is in compliance, by reconciling through purchase history and periodic IT audits of active software. * Performs yearly disaster recovery testing. Education / Experience Required: * BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent. * Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) or equivalent experience * 5 years of PC hardware and software and networking experience * A certification, Active Directory, Microsoft Office suite, SQL, and scripting are essential components to the position. * Familiar with all platforms of the Windows operating systems with a minimum of 5 years of experience. * Linux server administration experience is a plus. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: * Must possess quality interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate fluidly with a broad array of people, from an end user with minimal computer related skills to highly technical support people. * Must be able to function under a high stress environment when unforeseen problems arise and the production flow is interrupted. * Organizational and communication skills * Ability to work in a team environment Job Competencies: This position requires additional remote administration duties when you are physically away from the plant and as the needs are dictated. Work schedule requires additional time both on site and remotely. Also, periodic evening and weekend work is necessary to accommodate maintenance and update schedules.
