Job Description:

Old Dominion is currently recruiting for a Linehaul Supervisor to join our OD Family Culture. This role will successfully manage the linehaul department of the service center. This role will also directly manage, supervise and assign tasks to Line Haul Drivers to ensure proper utilization and development of team members while meeting customer expectations. Responsible for achieving the department, service center and company standards for safety, quality, efficiency, cost, service and delivery and training and development. Our Linehaul Drivers are critical memebers to our OD Family; they help to accurately deliver our customer's freight and help us keep our promises.


  • Monitors and evaluates the safety of each employee on a daily basis, trains on safety processes as needed.

  • Monitors multiple service center lanes to ensure freight reaches service centers in time for efficient cross docking.

  • Track expedited freight to ensure it arrives to the customer on time

  • Provide training and feedback to Line Haul Drivers on a continual basis regarding RPM, over speed and idle scores

  • Conduct daily inspections to ensure compliance with local, state and Federal safety regulations, OSHA and DOT compliance

  • Conduct quarterly safety meetings

  • Motivate Line Haul Drivers to exceed goals and maintain the 99% On Time percentage

  • Communicate with dock supervisors in order to get trailers loaded and moved to the final destination

  • Make quick and informed decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to Line Haul Drivers

  • Provide analyses and recommendations for operations improvements within the shift, department and service center

  • Work closely with all of the Service Center Management and Central Dispatch to ensure alignment in meeting daily, weekly, monthly and yearly business objectives

  • Must be able to work varying shifts as needed depending on customer pickup and delivery schedules


  • High School diploma or equivalent required, College degree preferred

  • 2 year supervisory experience, preferable in the transportation industry

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to motivate others and work with a variety of people

VIEW JOBS 9/20/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-19T00:00 ABOUT THE POSITION This position supervises family support staff activities in the District Attorney's Family Support Division and performs difficult, technical or specialized support work in establishing and enforcing child support obligations, locating absent parents, and establishing paternity. This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources. Some positions may be Grant Funded. Grant Funded positions are subject to continuation based on availability of grant funds and the employee will be terminated without right of appeal when such funds are no longer available. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in a related field AND three (3) years of full-time experience working in a child support program. Prior lead or supervisory experience required. Working Conditions: Work in potentially violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments. Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation, which may include both a pre-and post offer background check for positions within the District Attorney's Office. Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of assigned staff. Recommends selection of staff; trains staff in work procedures; administers discipline as required. Provides input into the budget and goal setting processes. Develops, implements and monitors new and revised operational policies and work procedures; establishes and revises case management procedures. Monitors caseload of assigned staff and assigns work accordingly. Provides varied assistance to family support attorneys and ensures that court materials are correctly prepared and available on time. Monitors quality control of cases in process, identifies problems and recommends corrective action; ensures compliance with state and federal regulations. Analyzes and evaluates cases to determine action to be taken; processes complex or problem cases and conducts difficult or sensitive interviews. Serves as liaison between caseworkers, attorneys, other County departments and representatives of other agencies. Assures coverage of caseload in the absence or termination of employees; determines work schedules and authorizes leaves. Maintains current, updated department manuals of policies and procedures; maintains records and prepares periodic or special reports. Assists with the balancing of the financial transactions within the division. Contributes to the overall quality of the program's service goals by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures. May drives a motor vehicle or be able to arrange for appropriate transportation in order to attend off-site meetings or testify in court. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, strength to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
