The Line Operations Intern will support and assist with various non-hot line projects as assigned within the Companys Line Operations Department. These projects will be assigned consistent with the Companys Internship Program with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the Companys multiple business units and enhancing the interns ability to apply his/her education in a business environment.

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD

CLOSING DATE: This position will close on March 4, 2019.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Area Operations Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    *
  • Assist and follow instructions of the Lead Line Mechanic and Line Mechanic in constructing, maintaining, and removing lines (overhead and underground).

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    *
  • Observe all safety rules and line work procedures.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

    *
  • Maintain strong working relationships within Line Operations Department.
  • *
  • Maintain supportive and respectful working relationships with all Black Hills Corporation employees and departments.

EXPERIENCE:

    *
  • None required.

EDUCATION:

    *
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • *
  • Power Line Construction and Maintenance Program diploma required.

KNOWLEDGE:

    *
  • Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, hand tools and their use.
  • *
  • Basic knowledge of electrical standards for construction of the electrical system, methods and materials.
  • *
  • Basic knowledge of construction equipment for overhead and underground construction.

SKILLS/ABILITY/OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

    *
  • Must have ability to frame poles and have basic knowledge of the tools required for line construction.
  • *
  • Must have ability to climb poles.
  • *
  • Ability to operate, care for, and maintain tools and equipment.

CERTIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS:

    *
  • Pole climbing certification required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    *
  • Prepare and present a synopsis of experience with the Company at the end of the internship.
  • *
  • Must possess a valid South Dakota Commercial Driver's license, at least Class A, with air brake endorsement, or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
