Job Description:

Perform work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities.

The Line Mechanic C builds upon the skills, abilities and knowledge learned as a Line Mechanic D (or equivalent). Assemble, install, maintain, remove and competently inspect underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures and other associated equipment on de-energized and grounded overhead and underground facilities under immediate or general supervision. During the first six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision. Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision of higher classification.

After six months in this classification, shall be capable of working on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision. Use volt-amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers and other electrical test equipment associated with line work on voltages up to 600 volts. After 18 months in this classification, for the purpose of on-the-job training, may perform the duties of the first six months of the LMB classification when working under the direct supervision of an employee of higher classification.

Apply various kinds of insulating protective equipment on facilities energized only at voltage qualified to work on. Under direct supervision, the employee may operate cutouts, line switches, reclosers, and other sectionalizing devices, refuse line and transformer devices, test de-energized lines and equipment, and place or remove grounds. During this time frame, the employee may progress from direct supervision to immediate and finally general supervision as skill level dictates.

Build and erect equipment mountings (such as regulator and transformer platforms) and build overhead transformer installations. Conduct proper tagging procedures while performing switching of energized circuits Perform inspection and trouble-shooting of lines. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.

Natural gas distribution facilities may consist of main lines, service lines, and measurement regulation equipment. The Engineer will provide technical assistance and support for Construction and Field Operations staff involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of distribution facilities. Collaborate and coordinate efforts with key stakeholders on large distribution projects. KEY RESULTS: Ensure safe and reliable delivery of energy services at best cost Meet or exceed internal/external customer expectations Actual project costs are within 10% of estimated costs Safe/efficient high quality engineering designs that comply with policies, practices, standards, and applicable codes Productivity and performance results that meet or exceed expectations Timely delivery of all facility designs Consistent communication with key stakeholders and business partners Ensure post and pre winter operation system reviews are held Responsibilities Evaluate, design, and estimate natural gas distribution facilities Prepare permit applications and easement requests Prepare detailed drawings Compile capital work order / job order packets Prepare budget estimates Report on project variances Support Operations employees in emergency situations Review and process completion reports and as-built drawings Provide training and guidance to new personnel Act as liaison to state, county, and local government officials Conduct winter preparedness reviews Assist in contract bid documentation Maintain MAOP documentation Selection Criteria Key Work Experience/Education Required for Selection: Bachelors degree in engineering curriculum from an ABET accredited college or university. Complete training, development and advancement criteria required for the Field Engineer level.
