The Line Cook is responsible for preparing food in accordance with the approved menu, current standards, guidelines, and regulations to assure that quality food service is provided at all times, in accordance with the companys mission, vision, and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook all food items and meals in accordance with planned menus and recipes ensuring all meals and food preparation are of high quality, palatable and appetizing. Assist in food preparation for special meals, parties, events, etc.

  • Prepare food and serve in accordance with sanitary regulations, as well as with established policies and procedures. Report any incidents or infractions to Sous Chef or Culinary Services Director.

  • Assist, when requested, in the purchasing, inventory, checking in and storing of food and supplies. Ensure that stock levels of staple/non-staple food, supplies, equipment, etc., are organized and maintained at adequate levels at all times. Work closely with the Sous Chef and Culinary Services Director in specifying and selecting food products.

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents, and guests, following established safety standards.

  • Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Prefer six (6) months experience working in a restaurant or similar environment as a cook.

  • Possess written and verbal skills to interact and communicate effectively with employees, supervisors, physicians, healthcare professionals, residents and their families.

  • Must pass a criminal background check before beginning work.

Essential Functions: • Consistently prepare high quality food in a timely manner and follow all company recipes and specifications. o Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking. o Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience. o Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils. o Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment. • Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of your work station and the Kitchen. • Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices. • Comply with all portion sizes, quality standards, Kitchen rules, policies & procedures. • Estimate expected food consumption, requisition or purchase supplies, or procure food from storage. • Set up Line according to kitchen guidelines and par sheets. • Pre-cut ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, deli-meats, et-cetera, in order to reduce the preparation time for dishes. • Check to see if kitchen equipment is operational. • Stock stations to par levels. • Check stations for equipment and tools. • Memorize all ingredients and portion sizes for the menu items. • Wrap, date and refrigerate food. • Sanitize cutting boards. • Organize station shelves. • Hand-clean knives. • Complete and participate in Line Checks to ensure that quality products are served. • Assist with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-ins, and all storage areas. • Wash your hands frequently. • Use kitchen utensils, knives and equipment safely and in a responsible manner. • Work as a team and use positive communication skills at every opportunity. • Clean, stock, and maintain the Line throughout shift. • Follow all safety and sanitation policies.
