Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to teach Applied Voice and Aural Skills to Music majors and minors. All Music faculty actively collaborate as Soloists and Chamber musicians; establish active connections with regional and national college instructors; participate in recruiting and retaining outstanding students to the Music program; actively promote collaborative relationships across the university; advance department, college, and university goals by supporting the academic environment for the students at the university; and perform other duties assigned according to experience, expertise or departmental needs.

Responsibilities

Faculty

  • Teaching/Instructing

  • 50

  • Teach Applied Voice to Music majors and minors

  • Teach Aural Skills as part of the Music Theory sequence

  • Teach related Voices classes to Music majors and minors

  • Contribute to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching topical first-year (GCSU1Y) or second-year seminar (GCSU2Y) courses or Music Appreciation

  • Occasionally supervise senior recitals

All faculty are expected to develop in their profession. Some examples of professional development activities include the following:

  • attending conferences,
  • presenting at professional meetings,
  • applying for grants,
  • participating in professional organizations, and
  • publishing in appropriate venues.

Although lecturers are not required to publish, engaging in scholarship activity that informs classroom instruction is strongly encouraged.

Scholarship of teaching and learning is especially valued.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Masters in Voice Pedagogy or Voice Performance; ABD or Doctorate Preferred.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Faculty who demonstrates an understanding of Georgia College & State University's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship.

Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.

  • Experience in teaching collegiate level applied lessons

  • Experience teaching aural skills

  • Experience working with students in a liberal arts setting
