This position performs various duties including driving dump trucks, operating small equipment as well as making small repairs and daily maintenance to trucks and equipment used. Other duties include labor to conduct various types of construction projects related to drainage construction and / or street maintenance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position.
Vehicle operation of various size dump trucks accordance to related projects. Operation of equipment, such as font-end loaders, backhoes, rotary driven brooms, mowers, steel wheel rollers, pad foot roller and other small equipment as assigned in a safe and efficient manner.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.
Conducts labor tasks including digging with a shovel, mixing cement, using a jackhammer, hand vibratory compactors, installing various types of pipe, use of chain saws, rescue saw and any other hand tools required to do work assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
Complete daily work reports, fuel logs. Attend various type of classes such as trench safety, sensitivity, driver training, customer service, work zone, pesticide training to obtain license as necessary, water / sewer training as necessary, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must obtain a Class "A" commercial driver's license within 6 months from hire date.
Must be capable of operating various types of equipment and trucks.
Must be capable of conducting routine maintenance to various equipment and trucks.
Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking in English.
Must be able to communicate using a 2- way radio.
Must be capable of obtaining various types of certifications / license as necessary to do projects / work assignments that may be required.
Ability to work extended hours and on call duty roster for emergencies.
Ability to understand and follow the City of Conroe / Departmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge of street, highway and drainage construction.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Must be capable of performing labor task as required to complete work assignments.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum two years experience in construction and / or repair of streets, drainage, highways and the operation of light equipment and trucks.
Minimum three years experience in underground utilities and construction.
Pass drug test and physical examination.
Valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Drivers License.
Must lift weights of 50 pounds and (100 pounds with assistance).
