ST,BRIDG,DRAIN - GENERAL PURPOSE

Operates a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of Grounds, Right of Ways, easements, buildings, streets, sidewalks, bridges, and drainage systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Position works under the close supervision of a Senior Crew Chief, Crew Chief, Heavy Equipment Operator or Senior Equipment Operator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Position serves as lead worker over other personnel as assigned (Maintenance Tech, Laborer).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.* Operates a variety of trucks and construction or power equipment, such as skid steer loader, rubber tire back-hoe, mini excavator, man-lift, fork lift, vibratory roller, mechanized broom, bucket trucks, and stump grinder.
2.* Operates jackhammers, compaction equipment, tractor powered rotary cutters, zero turn/riding mowers, concrete/ asphalt/ all purpose saws, and other small equipment and tools to maintain streets, sidewalks, easements, right of ways, and drainage systems.
3.* Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches, canal cleaning, pump station cleaning, culvert installation, pole holes, hoisting material, tools, grass cutting, equipment, and any related work in Streets, Bridges, and Drainage.
4.* Utilizes basic carpentry and masonry skills to construct catch basins, drainage inlets, aprons, sidewalks, driveways, street panels, concrete pipe joining and/or repairs.
5.* Performs street/ parking lot striping, installation of preformed thermo-plastic pavement markings, and application (airless sprayer, roller, or brush) of industrial coatings.
6.* Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
7.* Cutting of grass and brush using pole saws, chainsaws, string trimmers, and powered rotary mowers.
8.* Maintain accurate records (Daily Worksheets)
9.* Perform general janitorial work, including cleaning of restrooms and building facilities.
10.* Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
11.* Performs the duties of maintenance worker, as required or assigned.
12.* Assists concrete crews with forming, pouring and finishing concrete street slabs, sidewalks, aprons and curbing.
13.* Assists asphalt crews with lay down of hot mix asphaltic pavement, compaction and finish of wearing coarse.
14.* Works in trenches with crews in making required repairs on drainage infrastructure.
15.* Serves as a ground person on the line crew as required and assigned.
16.* Assists in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices.
17.* Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
18.* Assists with any other job related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

1.* High school graduation or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalent; and
2.* One(1) Year experience involving the use of light and medium equipment; or
3.* An equivalent combination of education and experience. Full-time related experience may be substituted, year for year, for the required education.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.* Considerable knowledge of light/medium equipment operating principles; working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to light/medium equipment operations; working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in grounds, street and drainage maintenance work.
2.* Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
3.* Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; Ability to observe proper safety precautions; Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public; Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions; Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment under varying conditions; Ability to work from construction specifications; Ability to perform as a Department of Labor and Industries competent person on excavation sites.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possess a valid State Driver's License.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Include, but not limited to: Motorized vehicles and equipment, including small track hoe, pickup truck, utility truck, street sweeper, tractors w/ rotary cutters, riding mowers, brush cutters, wood chippers, edgers, vibratory roller/compactors, man lift, tamper, plate compactor, concrete/asphalt/all purpose saws, motorized line striping machine and airless sprayer, saws, pumps, propane torch, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, reciprocating saws, circular saws, etc., proper personal protective equipment, detection devices, mobile radio or phone.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
