A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A MECHANIC:

As a Light Duty Mechanic, you are responsible for diagnosing vehicles that come into our stations and repairing it. You will also be expected to perform basic service jobs on vehicles and work with the alignment machine from time to time.

Our Light Duty Mechanics have to be good with technology as you will be working with scan tools for vehicle diagnostics, an air conditioner recovery machine, pipe benders, and brake lathes. This is a perfect position for someone who is mechanically inclined as you will be working on vehicles all day. You will also be responsible for repairing and installing tires, installing wheels, doing tractor conversions, and selling tires to and for customers.

You will have to know how to utilize technology to use the computerized wheel balancer, tire machine, and the Ag tire machine. Safety is always our number one priority and we do everything we can to ensure the safest work environments for our employees, therefore you will be required and expected to adhere to all safety rules and regulations. You will be interacting a lot with customers so you must have good customer service skills and be able to talk to them about their vehicle. This is a skilled position requiring an individual who doesn't mind getting dirty, works hard, pays attention to detail, and has a good work ethic.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma and/or equivalent.

  • Two year Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics would be helpful

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified is preferred

  • 2-4 years of experience in the auto mechanics industry is preferred

  • Basic computer skills

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Good attitude and work ethic

  • Customer service oriented

  • Outgoing personality

  • This is a very physically demanding job. You must be able to stand on concrete for long periods at a time, bend, kneel, and lift heavy objects.

WORK SCHEDULE

The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and from 7:30 am to noon on Saturdays. More hours may occur based off demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Troubleshoots and repairs company vehicles and equipment as needed. This includes the performance of technical diagnostics and major repair of the following equipment: passenger vehicles, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, trailers, loaders, mining equipment and any other designated machinery. Performs all work in accordance with schedules, policies, procedures and standards of quality and safety. In doings such functions, comply with company rules, procedures, and guidelines. Report un-safe practices. Provides direction and leadership to fellow employees in various maintenance and repair methods, procedures, and techniques. Helps co-workers understand various aspects of the work assigned to them. Participates in all associated work in their department, helps insure that the work performed is accurate, that the proper work methods and techniques are in compliance with applicable standards and specifications. Responds to emergency service calls for repairing or towing equipment that has broken down away from the garage. Performs duties at the plant and production locations as needed. Maintains and assures cleanliness and neatness of shop area. Assures safety standards are met. Other duties may be assigned. Education and/or Experience A vocational/technical Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) mechanic certification preferred; five years related vehicle and heavy equipment repair experience required; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A valid CDL driver's license is preferred, or must be able to qualify and obtain a CDL within a reasonable amount of time. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under the company's insurance plan. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization. Read and interpret manuals, schematics, plans and specifications related to duties. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: Laptop computer skills required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) mechanic certification preferred. Diesel/Auto technology or equivalent. Other Skills and Abilities: Be able to operate with minimal supervision, trouble shoot and take initiative to investigate and resolve problems. Must be a self starter, and to get along well with others. Other Qualifications: Applicant must have complete set of tools to do the required job functions, diagnostic tools are provided. A working knowledge of related maintenance skills such as welding, electrical and mechanical systems, engines, and brakes are necessary. Must be flexible regarding work schedule. Department personnel must be reachable by phone.
