Lifeguard/Wsi I

Summary

Individuals assigned to this position have advanced certification. They are responsible for instructing swim lessons and supervising the patrons in the natatorium. The position is within the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and works under the direction of the Aquatics Supervisor and Assistant Aquatics Supervisors.

Essential Functions

Includes, but is not limited to, essential functions as listed below:

• Teach swim lessons to all levels and age groups assigned in accordance with the instructor objectives, curriculum and teaching policies and procedures outlined in the Aquatics Manual.

• Abide by and enforce policies and procedures of the City of Lynnwood, Recreation Division and the Aquatics Program to ensure the safe operation of the pool and lesson program.

• Report any accidents or incidents to Aquatics Supervisory staff immediately, give first aid, and notify 911, if necessary.

• Participate in monthly in-service training sessions.

• Maintain accurate written records of student progress.

• Use and store equipment appropriately, assist with pool set up and general cleaning of equipment and natatorium.

• Respond to questions or situations in person or on the phone.

• Monitor the patrons and the activities, identify potential safety concerns and take action to prevent accidents or injuries.

• Respond appropriately to emergencies and provide first aid, if needed.

• Maintain regular attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old and possess current certification in WSI (Water Safety Instructor) and lifeguard training (American Red Cross) or WSI (Water Safety Instructor) and CPR:FPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer). In either case, must complete Blood Borne Pathogen, AED training. Must be able to pass the City of Lynnwood lifeguard skills checklist on a quarterly basis. (See attachment). And/Or be able to maintain a satisfactory or better evaluation score on quarterly instructor evaluations. (See attached)
