LIFEGUARD JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, ensures the safety of patrons of an aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Duties/Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.

  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

  • Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.

  • Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.

  • Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.

  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Less than high school with 6 months to 1-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. CPR Certified; Current certification as Lifeguard by a recognized source of training. If you are not certified Butte Silver Bow will provide the training to become certified.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.

  • Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.

  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.

  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.

REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Montana;
  • Must be a resident of the City County of Butte Silver Bow during employment according to ordinance: "2.08.010 Residence during employment.

From and after October 1, 1979, all employees of the local government of Butte-Silver Bow shall be bona fide residents within the boundaries of Butte-Silver Bow during the period of their employment by the government of Butte-Silver Bow.

  • Ability to pass a background check;
  • Performs all duties and work assignments in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner. Specifically, complying with the Health and Safety Program; maintaining work areas in a safe and orderly manner; identifying and reporting unsafe conditions; reporting all accidents; wearing required personal protective equipment and attending safety-related meetings, training sessions, fit testing, etc.;
  • Performs all duties and work assignments in compliance with project quality requirements;
  • Acts responsibly and ethically, and in conformance with generally accepted business, occupational and professional standards;
  • Performs related work as required.

SHORT - TERM (UP TO 480 HOURS) SUMMER LABORERS (positions are covered under the LIUNA Local #1686 bargaining unit) - $12.00 PER HOUR PAYMENT OF INITIATION FEE, MONTHLY UNION DUES, AND HEALTH INSURANCE MAY BE REQUIRED This work is performed under the general direction and supervision of the Planning Department, Ridge Water Pool Operations Manager or Public Works Department Supervisors. Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to: patching potholes with hot asphalt or a Durapatch machine; assisting in paving roads; cracksealing; cleaning culverts; building and installing signs; assisting in setting up and tearing down traffic control; hosing and cleaning streets; ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends. Requires high school diploma or equivalency certificate and some experience as a general laborer or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Must be 18 or over. 2. SHORT - TERM SUMMER PARK/TRAIL AIDE $8.50-$9.50 PER HOUR Performs unskilled manual work in raking, watering and sprinkling, sweeping and general cleanup of City-County Parks using weed eaters and small power or hand mowers, ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends. Experience preferred. Must be 16 or over. 3. SHORT - TERM SUMMER ALLEY RALLY WASTE SPOTTER $8.50-$9.50 PER HOUR Performs unskilled manual work helping citizens of Butte-Silver Bow with unloading refuse from vehicles, emptying trash canisters on a daily basis, assisting with site upkeep, ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, and educating citizens on recycling efforts in Butte-Silver Bow. Must be 18 or over. 4. SHORT - TERM ARCHIVES AND MAINTENANCE SHOP SUPPORT $8.50-$9.50 PER HOUR Performs basic office and other duties related to the operations of the Archives or the Maintenance Shop. Must be 16 or over. 5. SHORT – TERM SUMMER POOL AIDE $8.50-$9.50 PER HOUR Provides customer service, assists in preparing for day – to – day operations at Ridge Waters Water Park, responsible for basic accounting of money and inventory, basic knowledge of serving food and beverages desired, responsible for general cleaning of the facility, ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and ability to quickly learn how to operate a point – of sale system. Must be 16 or over. 6. SHORT – TERM CLUBHOUSE ATTENDANT $8.50 - $9.50 PER HOUR Must possess basic knowledge of the game of golf, basic working knowledge of food and beverage, basic math skills to accurately count and handle money, ability to follow directions, ability to quickly learn how to operate a point-of-sale system.
