JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Natatorium Lifeguard will assist the Natatorium Coordinator or designee in the performance of duties pertaining to swimming pool supervision, safety, operation, and maintenance. Duties include insuring the safety of students, staff and general public who are using the CISD Natatorium.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to use technology required to perform the job at the Conroe ISD Natatorium.

  • Assists in upholding and enforcing CISD Natatorium rules, administration regulations, American Red Cross guidelines and state / local board policy.

  • Assists the Natatorium Coordinator or designee in the organization of all aquatic events.

  • Orients pool staff and patrons to special safety needs required for swimming activity equipment.

  • Responsible for the direct supervision of district aquatic events scheduled for the CISD Natatorium.

  • Ability to prepare incident reports for natatorium coordinator or designee.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Communicates positively and effectively with administrators, coaches, community members, and parents.

  • Demonstrates skill in conflict resolution.

  • Communicates district instructional goals and objectives of the assigned area to administrators, staff, and community as appropriate.

  • Monitors aquatic activity.

  • Assist the Natatorium Coordinator or designee with life-guards, and other required personnel for special aquatic events.

  • Maintains effective communication with high school swim coaches, outside clubs, and the athletic director.

  • Assists the Natatorium Coordinator or designee in recommending supplies and equipment necessary for the implementation of approved programs and special aquatic events.

  • Assists the Natatorium Coordinator or designee in the supervision, and maintenance of materials and equipment as appropriate.

  • Keeps informed of research, disseminates ideas to other professionals, identifies trends and opportunities and applies this information as appropriate.

  • Demonstrates steps taken for professional growth.

  • Observes professional and ethical standards in accordance with teaching and coaching standards and community expectations.

  • Maintains membership and active participation in professional organizations.

  • Promotes aquatics programs throughout the community including recreational, learn to swim, fitness, masters, club, and other activities.

  • Attends regularly.

EXPERIENCE:

  • No work or lifeguard experience necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups.

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) in English or currently attending High School

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, First Aid

  • Valid Texas Drivers License or valid Texas Identification Card

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must be able to pass both written and water skills tests

  • Must be able to maintain physical fitness and water safety instruction skills

  • Must maintain the knowledge and ability to use the latest techniques and skills in water safety and rescues

  • Must be able to ability to read and interpret documents such as safety manuals, operating instructions, rule books and procedure manuals

  • Strong interpersonal skills

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. There will be occasional district travel, frequent prolonged and irregular hours. Considerable bending, lifting, operating pool equipment, swimming, and computer use is required.

AQUATIC SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

The employee must successfully complete three swimming prerequisites. Prerequisite 1 requires the employee to perform a 300-Yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Prerequisite 2 requires the employee to tread water for 2 minutes without support and without stopping. Prerequisite 3 requires the employee to retrieve a 10 pound brick from a distance of 20 yards, and a depth of 10 feet, and return to the starting point with the brick.
