Job Summary

The lifeguard will be available on pool deck to monitor patrons' safety at the Spearfish Recreation and Aquatics Center.

Essential Functions

The lifeguard:

  • Will be required to have a physical presence and regular and reliable attendance.

  • Maintains order and implements safety procedures.

  • Maintains pool area in a clean and presentable manner

  • Learns and follows all city-established safety practices and personnel policies.

  • Help ensures patron safety and protects lives through patron surveillance.

  • Attends regular in-services and trainings.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

  • Must have a high level of responsibility

  • Must be punctual

  • Ability to enforce rules and regulations and have good sound judgment

  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective and positive working relationship with employees and the general public

  • Familiarity with overall pool operations including administration, chemicals and mechanics

  • Possess excellent public relation skills

  • Ability to follow oral and written orders

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have Red Cross or equivalent approved lifeguard certification

  • WSI certification preferred

  • Must be at least 15 years of age

  • Willing to receive additional training
