Essential Functions: * Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area. * Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required. * Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff. * Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. * Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code. * Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed. * Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. * Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action. * Attends all staff meetings and training as required. * Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed. * Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention. * Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests. * Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities. * Phase 1*
Tread water for 2 minutes * Swim 100 yards front crawl * Phase 2* Swim 50 yards(2 laps) of each stroke-Front crawl with head up, sidestroke, breaststroke, breaststroke with head up, elementary backstroke kick with hands on chest. * Perform a feet first surface dive in 6-7 feet of water, then swim underwater for 15 feetNOTE: This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions.
