Life Skills Coordinator, Correctional Recreation Specialist 2 (Wilsonville) Internal / Underfill

This position is available for current regular status employees of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Correctional Enterprises, or Oregon Board of Parole, Probation, and Post-Prison Supervision.

This position has an underfill opportunity available. This means if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Corrections Recreation Specialist 2 classification, you may be able to be hired as a Corrections Recreation Specialist 1. If hired as an underfill in the lower classifications, you will receive the salary range of the lower position until you meet the qualifications for the regular position. When you meet the qualifications, you will be automatically reclassified as the higher regular position. Preference may be given to those who currently meet the regular classification qualifications.

About the Job:

Your Role:

As the Life Skills Coordinator, you assess, design, coordinate, and implement a wide variety of gender responsive and trauma informed social, cultural, athletic, and leisure time activities along with a variety of security functions.

In this position you are responsible for developing and coordinating facility events, adults in custody activities, and Life Skills programs. You will be inventorying and monitoring recreation equipment and other Life Skills supplies. This roll will assess the availability of funding, equipment, facility space, and community resources as they design program proposals and expand service. You provide supervision and serve as a liaison for all volunteers, staff, and the community to ensure training, orientation, and facility familiarization requirements are met.

You will be providing a high level of customer service, streamlining any and all processes associated with running a revenue generating business including hiring, training, holding adults in custody accountable for misuse of equipment, reinforcing positive behavior change, and terminating of its workers.

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). This position may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Corrections Recreation Specialist 2

Monthly Salary Range: $4,791 - $6,023

  • Three years of experience assessing, developing, coordinating, and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities;

OR

  • a Bachelor's degree in Recreational Management, Physical Education or a related field

Minimum Qualifications

  • Underfill, Corrections Recreation Specialist 1

Monthly Salary Range: $4,367 - $5,489

  • One year of experience assessing, developing, coordinating and implementing recreational programs and leisure time activities.

OR

  • 34-quarter hours (21 semester hours) in Recreation or Physical Education or related coursework will substitute for the experience.

What to Expect:

Requirements for Employment

The successful candidate for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, there may be some felony convictions that could disqualify you for this position. However, having a felony record does not exclusively restrict you from being considered as an applicant. CJIS clearance is done at the conditional job offer.
