Chubb is currently seeking a Commercial Lines Life Sciences Underwriter to join the Western Underwriting Center. This position supports the achievement of the regional sales and production branch objectives and Chubb Commercial Insurance underwriting goals related to profit, customer service, and producer relationships.

As an Underwriter in Chubb's Underwriting Center, and member of the Regional Life Science Unit, you are accountable for:

  • Financial performance, including profit, rate, retention, and identifying cross-sell opportunities, of a book of commercial business consisting of Life Science accounts

  • Underwrite and negotiate renewals on a commercial lines portfolio of $3M to $5M in Life Science business

  • Lines of business include commercial package (property including business interruption, general liability & crime), product liability including human clinical trials, errors & omissions, automobile, umbrella, workers compensation, and international including foreign clinical trial policies for Life Sciences business

  • Manage 400 to 500 policies related to 100 125 accounts

  • Develop strong relationships with independent agents and brokers in order to successfully manage our business which may require travel to producer locations

Skills and Competencies:

  • Solid knowledge of commercial underwriting with the ability to analyze risks, adhere to underwriting strategies, prioritize the gathering of underwriting data, and clearly communicate a well thought out underwriting approach

  • Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge with experience handling Life Science business is preferred

  • Strong analytical skills including financial analysis

  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication and negotiation skills and ability to effectively interact at all levels of with both internal and external business partners

  • Ability to be creative and adaptable in a changing business environment

  • Sound, balanced, and timely decision making skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (i.e. Biology or Lab work is a plus)
  • 3-5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience

We are looking for a candidate who is highly motivated to succeed, demonstrates strong teamwork, collaboration and problem solving skills and is results oriented. Candidate must have experience in multi-line underwriting. The lines of business included on the platform include but are not limited to: BOP, Commercial Auto, Workers Compensation, and Umbrella. The position is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business submitted through the online platform. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Underwriting responsibilities include: evaluating, accepting, rejecting, or modifying Small Commercial risks within established underwriting guidelines and authority utilizing Chubb's Small Commercial on-line platform. * Demonstrate strong underwriting quality and profitability through appropriate risk selection and documentation * Takes ownership for an assigned book of business and communicates underwriting decisions quickly and effectively with assigned agents. * Build and maintain a result-oriented relationship with the Territory Sales Leads for assigned book of business to drive overall results including profitability, growth, and retention. * Identify and drive enterprise cross-sell opportunities utilizing Chubb's full product suite, to include Financial and Management lines, for assigned book. * Understands the unique needs of the small business owner and partners with agents to craft a specialized policy and sell Chubb's Small Commercial value proposition * Proactively seek to retain key renewals by working closely with the Territory Sales Leads and agents to negotiate premium and terms and conditions * Create, implement, and execute individual agency plans in conjunction with Territory Sales Lead REQUIREMENTS: * We are looking for an experienced candidate that is highly motivated to succeed, has strong desk management competencies and is results oriented.
