Job Overview

The Application Specialist is responsible for the successful execution of client telephone interviews for the purpose of completing electronic life insurance applications for the FastApp program. This includes the data entry of tickets onto the system, follow-up inbound and outbound calls with clients for completion of application packets, and the distribution and ordering of Docusign documents, paramedical exams, and APS orders as they pertain to the pending applications. They shall provide accurate and timely assistance in the application input process. These employees also handle the majority of incoming application in good order reviews and communication with agent offices to receive any outstanding requirements for successful submission to the carriers. They will support the department my processing and distributing inbound mail and incoming emails to the department inbox. The Application Specialist may also assist with special assignments, as needed.


  • Answer and handle inbound telephone calls from applicants wishing to complete their Personal History Interview (PHI) and provide additional details pertaining to their existing health history as deemed necessary by an underwriter during the risk assessment process.

  • Successfully maintain personal phone statistics as defined by department production, time service and quality objectives

  • Perform other telephone and clerical follow-ups as assigned

  • Accurately and completely document responses and update work management and mainframe systems as required

  • Speak with insurance applicants to obtain applicant information

  • Entering information accurately into application packets and sending/receiving Docusign items for processing

  • Work with the licensing team to ensure producer is licensed with appropriate insurance company and has any required trainings

  • Input applications on Agency Integrator

  • Order attending physician statements and medical exams

  • Check to insure all proper forms have been submitted

  • Review for completion of information on the application

  • Submit all in good order applications and documents to the proper carriers

  • Assist in training new hires coming into the life department

  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required by management

  • Open, track, and distribute all mail for department

  • As needed, manage outgoing mail packages

  • As needed, open, track, and distribute all mail for department

  • As needed, oversee and manage the incoming emails to the Life New Business Inbox

  • As needed, download and submit paramedical exams and doctor records to the insurance carrier

  • As needed, handle all incoming faxes

  • As needed, provide exceptional customer service with insurance carriers, producers, and case management team on daily basis

Skills and Experience Needed

  • Bachelor's degree strongly desired

  • 1 year related life insurance experience and/or related medical background is required

  • Ability to read and interpret insurance policies

  • Basic mathematical skills

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Superior demonstrated verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • Ability to take initiative

  • Ability to interact with all personality types and with all levels of staff

  • Time management and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • High attention to detail

  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision making skills

  • Willing to enhance education through training and industry education
