- Maintains active surveillance of the pool; including all levels of the water and surrounding areas.
2.Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately.
3.Completes related reports as required in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
4.Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool area.
5.Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or Health Department code.
6.Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
7.Conveys basic program information to members and identify potential volunteers.
8.Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is ready and available as needed.
9.Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving. Performs chemical testing as required.
- Create a mission-based environment which enables everyone to be engaged in the YMCA movement.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training; trains and supervises junior lifeguards as assigned.
Requirements1. Minimum age of 16.
2.Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
3.Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time in wide range of weather conditions.
4.Communicate with others immediately when responding to an incident or an emergency.
5.Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
6.Have adequate memory skills to be able to retain and apply lifeguard training knowledge.
7.Ability to effectively communicate information with members, peers and supervisors.
8.Must be observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
