This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth. This position reports to the Navigation and Sensors Group in Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse spacecraft development engineers, you will assist in the procurement, development, analysis, test, and verification, of the lidar navigation sensors on a variety of spacecraft and missions. You will participate in the full design life cycle of lidar navigation sensor development, analysis, testing, verification/validation, and flight. You will work closely with the guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) team to seamlessly integrate the lidar navigation system components with the rest of the GN&C. Your contributions will enable flight of state-of-the-art aerospace vehicles and missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the development of lidar sensor hardware requirements from system level specifications with flow downs to subsystem and component levels, and companion verification methods

  • Assist in the design of the lidar navigation architecture, hardware configuration with design studies, and execute sensor performance trades

  • Contribute to procurement, vendor coordination, delivery, acceptance, installation, verification, validation, qualification, and certification of the component hardware

  • Perform and guide testing and analyses such as flight test, thermal vacuum test, vibration test, etc. to validate top-level system specifications and requirements, and to establish performance specifications of the sensors

  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight testing

  • Support the GN&C subsystem technical lead with a cross-functional mindset to facilitate subsystem and system level architectural decisions

  • Support development of the navigation function for a full array of sensors

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in aerospace engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience in development of spacecraft navigation systems or spacecraft avionics systems

  • Experience with deorbit, descent, and landing navigation sensors

  • Lidar based altimetry.

  • Lidar based velocimetry.

  • Experience in sensor component procurement, integration, and test support

  • Experience with optical navigation sensors and testing environments

  • Demonstrated experience in verification and test of navigation systems

  • Experience in MATLAB/Simulink

Desired:

  • M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience in terrain relative navigation, hazard relative navigation, and hazard detection and avoidance.

  • Knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft navigation

  • Experience in hardware-in-the-loop simulation

  • Proven system engineering and configuration management skills

  • Working knowledge of NASA human spaceflight standards.

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,400-$175,560

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $136,800-$191,520

Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $136,800-$191,520
