This is a part-time position with no state benefits working approximately 20 hours. The Virginia Department of Education's Office of Teacher Licensure is seeking an experienced professional to work part-time issuing teacher licenses; analyzing and evaluating license requests; reviewing and analyzing information to be entered into the automated licensure system and using the system to track and issue appropriate licenses; providing technical and analytical services within established timelines to teachers, administrators and other in accordance with the Code of Virginia, Virginia's Licensure Regulations for School Personnel and Department of Education Policies; communicating and disseminating in oral and written form to both technical and lay audiences information regarding licensure regulations and application procedures within established timelines; composing letters and correspondence which are grammatically correct and consistent with regulations and policies; seeking guidance and direction expeditiously from the director in order to answer questions relating to licensure issues and office procedures, and responding to such questions in a timely manner; integrating the effective use of technology to include office automation, software, information access, data manipulation, and networking into daily office tasks; performing office procedures necessary for the daily operation and effectiveness of the Division of Teacher Education and Licensure in a timely and effective manner; and maintaining an effective file system and purging files in accordance with state and departmental regulations and policies.
Considerable knowledge of public school organization and practices as well as knowledge of state government operations. Considerable knowledge of the statutes, rules, policies and guidelines relating to issuing teacher licenses in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred.
Working knowledge of the components of graduate and undergraduate programs. Proficiency in word processing and data entry to include Microsoft Word and Excel, with advanced keyboarding skills. Demonstrate the ability to collect and record significant data for eligibility for licensure, process, code and enter licensure applications.
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the general public, college administration, faculty and licensure officers, school administrators, teachers and applicants. Demonstrate the ability to organize and manage large volumes of work, requiring attention to detail. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and amicably in a busy work area and maintain highly effective teamwork and organizational skills; and maintain effective work relations with co-workers, technical personnel, and the public.
Management approval to telework is contingent upon successful completion of 6 months of employment and the business needs of the work unit.
