The Licensed Vocational Nurse - Community Corrections is responsible for the performances of basic nursing duties to include execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, operation of sick call, and assisting the physician in examinations and treatments and performs technical/clinical procedures within the scope of his/her license. Assists in the professional management of the facility medical department.

Qualifications

Graduate from an approved school of nursing with a certificate as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Must be licensed in the state of employment.

The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan. Licensed Vocational Nurse III provides complex vocational nursing work. Work involves providing for the care, treatment, and general welfare of patients. May supervise the work of others. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.1. Prepares nursing and medical summaries. 2. Administers medication orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.3. May perform Treatment, Intervention, Protection Strategies (TIPS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 4. Monitors clients for treatments and procedures. 5. Monitors client's temperature, pulse, and respiration. 6. Collects specimens for examination. 7. Counsels clients with specific health goals. 8. Conducts appropriate screening tests. 9. Maintains records pertaining to medication, deaths, illnesses, and the transfer of patients. 10. Makes rounds. 11. May assist in developing quality assurance programs. 12. May assist in developing in-service training and educational programs. 13. May participate in conducting therapeutic programs. 14. May supervise the work of others. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Knowledge Skills Abilities: 1. Knowledge of nursing procedures and techniques. 2. Knowledge in Infection Control procedures & continuous Performance Improvement. 3. Demonstrate skills in observation and documentation. 4. Ability to provide patient medical care; to prepare and maintain records; 5. Ability to perform TIPS and CPR. 6. May supervise the work of others.Registration or Licensure Requirements: Must be currently licensed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse by the State of Texas or in a party state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Experience with personal computers, to include the MS Office Suite.
