The Veterinary Technician (Vet Tech) is responsible for assisting Veterinarians in the care of animals. The Vet Tech helps during patient examinations and surgical procedures by restraining animals when necessary, stocking examination and surgery rooms with supplies, sterilizing tools and ensuring that equipment is in working order. Vet Techs also communicate with clients (pet owners) and update patient files. This position may perform an initial evaluation of the animals condition, clean and wrap wounds, check vital statistics, collect samples and administer medication.

  • Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, and client education per hospital policy.
  • Perform initial evaluation of the pets condition and advise doctor regarding nature of visit, preventative care due and client concerns.
  • Obtain and prepare laboratory samples as requested by the veterinarian, i.e. urine, fecal and ear cytology.
  • Notify the doctor of lab results in a timely fashion.
  • Restrain animals in a safe, efficient and compassionate manner during examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare and set up for surgical procedures while utilizing knowledge of proper sterile field requirements.
  • Monitor recovery of surgery patients and communicate with owners per hospital policy.
  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications as directed by the doctor, ensuring that medications are added to the pets record and appropriately charged to the client.
  • Know vaccination guidelines within the hospital and administer vaccinations under the direction of the doctor.
  • Monitor hospitalized pets and perform treatments as directed by the doctor.
  • Utilize hospital computer systems to document medical records and communicate with clients and teammates.

Requirements

  • Licensed in Veterinary Technology in the state of VA
  • At least 1-3 years experience as a Veterinary Technician required
  • Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts
  • Must have computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations.
  • Must have the physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast paced and challenging environment.
  • Medical procedures and animal handling will be trained thoroughly on the job; however, excellent communication skills, a sense of urgency, and working harmoniously with teammates is required.
  • Must be dependable, demonstrate strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

VIEW JOBS 10/20/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-18T00:00 JOB TITLE: Program Clinician GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision and in collaboration with other professionals, aides in the development of individual Comprehensive Plans of Care (CPOCs). Processes and submits various reports on clients as scheduled to appropriate departments. Attends required meetings and trainings. Completes competency-based training of direct care professionals and ensure maintenance of treatment interventions. Notifies appropriate agencies of suspected abuse, neglect and or violation of client's rights. Reports to Clinical Administrator. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Promotes a person-centered approach to treatment: * Works with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to establish an environment supportive of treatment and education across all settings of care * Respects the personal goals of individuals served with ultimate goal of improving quality of life for the individual served and his/her care providers * Identifies behaviors that block the person from achieving his/her desired goals * Develops programs that derive from the individual's strengths * Provides therapeutic and counseling programs and services for assigned individuals that may include individual, group and family sessions * Uses a positive intervention model that minimizes physical intervention Assesses behavior: * Ensures that a functional assessment is completed for each individual served * Conducts assessments in a variety of settings, to include the group home, school and/or community * Familiarizes oneself with and utilizes indirect and direct assessment tools to measure behavior * Identifies and writes behavioral goals and objectives based on the function of the behavior(s) targeted * Makes treatment recommendations according to assessment results; responsible for initial completion and maintenance of CPOC document * Completes IEP behavior plan summary and functional assessment summary * Assists case manager as needed in writing justification for intensive/increased service * Attends medication reviews with individual and ensures completion of forms and assessments requested by the psychiatrist * Attends treatment team and/or multidisciplinary team meetings regularly (representing feedback from the supervising Clinician if needed), as well as behavior plan data in CPOC Evaluates and documents client progress and program effectiveness: * Supervises the collection of progress data as it is recommended within the treatment plan * Monitors progress of individual related to plan via graphing and analysis of data * Communicates all goal mastery or regression to multi-disciplinary team * Makes adjustments to behavioral goals and objectives as needed * Documents, summarizes and reports on progress data at least monthly * Creates and updates treatment and discharge plans on a routine basis * Participates in monthly treatment plan review meetings with all treatment team members * Prepares and submits treatment plan progress reports every 4 weeks * On an individual client basis, provide initial and ongoing training to staff assigned to deliver treatment effectively and consistently * Treatment plan procedures * Treatment session expectations * Data collection and graphing techniques * Family and related service provider training Supports staff development: * Teaches positive behavior support strategies that can be universally applied * Provides insight on how we each influence the people around us with our own behaviors * Teaches/trains staff on the principles of behavior * Teaches appropriate and efficient methods of data collection * Teaches alternative strategies to avoid the use of physical interventions * Teaches/trains staff on the need for environmental modifications * Teaches/trains staff on prevention techniques * Teaches/trains staff on antecedents and consequences strategies ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Provides clinical supervision and direction to therapist interns and unlicensed therapists * Maintains open communication and provides information and interpretations to parents, guardians and other human service agencies regarding individual progress, needs and treatment. * Conducts fidelity checks for assigned group homes and classrooms * Serves as advocate for individuals * Performs all duties in a timely manner and meets specific deadlines * Responds to crises; implements intervention strategies as needed; documents and reports all incidents in accordance with policies and procedures * Participates in clinical "on-call" rotation * Creates materials for individual therapy sessions, clinic sessions, and group sessions; provides therapeutic items needed for group homes or classrooms. * Attends conferences and workshops to keep abreast of professional trends, developments and techniques * Performs other work as assigned MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Requires a master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology.
