We are hiring a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Westbury, NY!

The base hourly range for this position is $25 - $35. Our pay ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provides professional, efficient and exceptional service at all times, making sure that clients and pets are comfortable and welcome in our VCG offices

  • Assists and support our VCG veterinarians in the care of our animal clients while supplying a reassuring and welcoming environment for our pet owners.

  • Supports animal examinations and requirements by assembling necessary supplies and instruments, recording symptomology and history, taking vitals, and collecting samples for the veterinarian

  • Assist during animal examinations and surgical procedures by calming and restraining animals and aiding as directed

  • Completes lab work and studies, including routine urinalysis and blood tests

  • Prepares vaccinations for administration

  • Provides preliminary reporting preparation for the veterinarian on diagnostic imaging

  • Stocks examination and surgery rooms with supplies, sterilizing tools and ensuring that equipment is in working order

  • Communicates effectively with pet owners by reviewing plans of care, explaining diagnosed conditions and treatments, and detailing the administration and use of medication and/or medical supplies and equipment

  • Maintain and update patient files via electronic medical records according to VCG systems and standards including documenting animal conditions, reactions, and changes; updating database

  • Supports animal surgery procedures by assembling required supplies and instruments; setting-up surgery table instruments; restraining animals; completing local/regional anesthesia; operating and monitoring anesthetic machines; hooking-up ECG monitors; preparing surgical site; placing catheters; cleaning-up post-surgical site; maintaining sterile conditions; obtaining and verifying medications

  • Maintains safe, secure, healthy and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments; sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas; storing sterile supplies; verifying shelf life; following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations

  • Maintains equipment by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining equipment supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs

  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt • Mentors and leads other members of the VCG treatment team

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional journals

  • Enhances VCG reputation by collaborating with other VCG treatment staff to ensure consistency of care and brand philosophy while accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
