AMC's Avian and Exotic Pet Service was established in 1984 as the first specialty service for exotic pets in New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. We provide state-of-the-art medical and surgical care for all different types of pets, including birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, small rodents, and reptiles.

We offer routine preventive healthcare as well as specialty care, and we are the premier referral service for birds and exotic pets in the tri-state area. Our staff of veterinarians and technicians are highly experienced and trained in all aspects of avian and exotic pet medicine. Learn More About the Avian & Exotic Pet Medicine Service Responsibilities:

Provide exceptional and compassionate patient care for avian and exotic patients from admission through discharge Provide anesthesia and surgical support for exotics patients Assist in caring for hospitalized exotics patients and perform treatments and restraint for exams as needed Operate and maintain surgical and anesthetic equipment Maintain and stock inventory Communicate professionally and effectively with clients and referring veterinarians Participation in educational and research projects with exotics focus Qualifications Must have NYS Veterinary Technician's license Knowledge and ability related techniques associated with the care of avian and exotic veterinary patients. Ability to lift and restrain animals weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to establish and maintain effective, respectful working relationships and customer satisfaction with all stakeholders, including department staff, medical staff, support staff, clients and referring veterinarians Must be able to work successfully as part of a team Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations Ability to communicate clearly with clients, technicians, and vets Flexibility and the ability to accommodate shift work in a hospital that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Our comprehensive benefits package includes: Competitive salary Generous sign-on bonus Generous paid time off Tuition assistance 50% discount on veterinary care Mentorship through the VTS process Continuing education funds with rollover options NYS Licensing fee reimbursement Relocation reimbursement for qualified candidates who live outside the NYC metropolitan area Free housing for 1 year for qualified candidates who live outside of the NYC metropolitan area (2-year employment commitment required) 403b matching Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage You may be eligible for The Public Loan Service Forgiveness Program as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit employer Shift TBD per departmental needs Salary Range $30.00 - $40.00 per hour Pay Range $30-$40 USD AMC's Commitment to Lifelong Learning The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is located in Manhattan, near a multitude of leading research and teaching hospitals.
