Job Summary

The Department of Human Resources encourages applications for a Licensed Staff Counselor with Multicultural Focus to join our outstanding team! The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) meets the psychological needs and well-being of university employees by providing culturally relevant counseling (1:1, couples, families), advising, and educational workshops.

This Counselor will specifically focus on identifying and supporting underserved and historically marginalized employees at the university. It is important that this position recognizes the effects that discrimination, prejudice, and systemic oppression has on marginalized individuals, and how these negative biases may lead to psychological trauma and stress.

This opportunity will also provide support and training in multiculturalism to FSAP staff to help ensure issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are considered in the services the FSAP office provides.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Clinical Services

  • Provide individual, couples, and family counseling to employees.

  • Services are primarily offered within a brief therapy framework.

  • Provide crisis intervention, including suicide assessment, as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation via the electronic health record system.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Identify, outreach, and develop relationships and programming for racial and ethnic populations that have historically underutilized mental health counseling.

  • Provide culturally responsive mental health services and outreach to UCB employees.

  • Develop and coordinate a culturally-competent campaign to de-stigmatize mental health.

  • Provide training and be a resource for diversity and inclusion work to employees.

  • Present at the Diversity and Inclusion Summit.

  • Liaison with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement (ODECE).

  • Collect, analyze, and present relevant statistics regularly.

Supervision and Administration

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and case consultation with other team members.

  • Record client interventions and statistics by completing case notes, intake documents, and other documentation in a timely manner, as well as other duties as assigned.

  • Attend regular supervision with the clinical supervisor.

  • Provide support to FSAP master's level counseling interns.

Professional Development

  • Join diversity action committees

  • Connect with local and national professional multicultural counseling journals and publications.

  • Attend multicultural counseling conferences, submitting presentations where possible.

Personal Growth

  • Engage in the self-work needed to uncover and dismantle personal biases.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated salary range is $51,000.00 - $65,000.00.

What We Require

  • Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field from an accredited program.

  • Clinically licensed in the State of Colorado (Psychologist, LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or related) or transferable or eligible to the State of Colorado within six (6) months of the date of hire.

  • At least two (2) years of direct clinical experience.

  • Experience and interest providing clinical services for individuals from multicultural backgrounds and historically marginalized populations in mental health, including Black/African American, Asian American, Latinx/Hispanic, Native American, and many others.

  • Experiencing conducting diversity and inclusion programming.

In this capacity, the incumbent functions as a member of a small multi-disciplinary team of 4 or more members, inclusive of Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselors, other mental health professionals, outreach workers and office managers. This exception only applies at the GS-09 level, for the GS-11 level, the candidate must be licensed. Grade Determinations: GS-9: Experience, Education, and Licensure: The GS-9 grade level is the entry grade level for LPMHCs with less than one year of experience (post-master's degree or for LPMHCs at the master's or doctoral level) who are graduates not yet licensed at the independent practice level.
