"Purpose:
Implement the special education appraisal process. Assess the education, learning style and program needs of students referred for special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.
Qualifications:
Education/ Certification: Master's Degree in educational assessment
LSSP Licensure, LSSP Trainee
Position Description:
LSSPs are responsible for completing psycho-educational evaluations for students who may be eligible for special education services. They are also expected to attend ARD meetings, facilitated by other staff, to request and review evaluations and to provide consultative support to teachers and other colleagues. Other screenings for Autism and behavioral/emotional needs may also be conducted. LSSPs are also expected to provide related service counseling to students.
Special Knowledge/ Skills:
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development and learning theories
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to handle multiple projects
Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned
Major Responsibilities: Collaborate with campus staff regarding the implementation of behavioral strategies for working with emotional and behavioral disorders.
Receive student referrals and follow specific time lines to implement the appraisal process.
Select, administer, and score formal and informal assessment to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Association regulations. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from students cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.
Conduct personal interviews.
Arrange for and participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures. Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of the IEP.
Consult with parents, students and other professionals concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
Coordinate the initiation or extinction of special education services and complete documentation required. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in the area of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations. Effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues, students and parents.
Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
Conduct home visits as needed. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relation with students and parents.
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students and ensure compliance with laws, policies, ARDs, and IEPs.
