Star of California is currently seeking a part-time or full-time Licensed Psychologist to join our Mental Health team in the San Diego and surrounding areas. We are looking for individuals who are diligent, organized and passionate about providing quality services to children and their families.

The ideal candidate has experience administering psychological assessments to children and adolescents. Background in Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnostic assessments and experience administering the Autism Diagnosis Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) is highly desirable.

This position is hybrid, with both in-person assessment and well as tele-assessment opportunities.

The Full-time position will conduct 8-10 assessments per month (in-person and/or virtual). The Part-time position will conduct 4-5 assessments per months (in-person and/or virtual).

Psychologists can work as W2 fee-for service employees or contractors and can be eligible for:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial clinical interviews

  • Administer, score, and interpret psychological tests

  • Report writing

  • Provide feedback sessions to patient, parents and/or caregivers


  • Doctoral degree (PsyD or PhD) in Clinical, School or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program

  • Hold state psychologist license in good standing

  • At least 3 years of experience conducting pediatric psychological assessments

The department is committed to offering a dynamic learning environment and growing opportunities to its talented and dedicated employees.</p><p>Under general supervision of the PI, incumbent will work as a neuropsychologist for a clinical trial investigating the treatment of cognitive impairments and depression associated with mild traumatic brain injury within the Department of Psychiatry. This position involves interpreting comprehensive neurobehavioral, neuropsychological, and functional evaluations and delivering a compensatory cognitive training intervention to participants with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and depression. Clinical responsibilities will include the delivery of Personalized Augmented Cognitive Training intervention to all study participants. This includes delivery of CogSMART cognitive training, providing feedback from neuropsychological assessments to study participants, and utilizing performances from neuropsychological assessment to support participant centered CogSMART module selection and application of intervention to day-to-day functioning. Incumbent will also train the research associates in the completion of neuropsychological assessments, and facilitate referrals of participants as necessary for clinical services external to the study. The position will require skills in Compensatory Cognitive Training and experience working with mTBI patients as well as with individuals with psychiatric disorders.</p><p>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</p><ul><li><p>Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from a program that is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and must have completed an APA-accredited clinical internship and two years of post-doctoral experience in neuropsychology, including experience with compensatory cognitive training.</p></li><li><p>Must possess a valid license as a Psychologist in California.</p></li><li><p>Valid California Driver's license and acceptable driving record.</p></li><li><p>Experience in randomized cognitive rehabilitation trials.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated experience in delivering CogSMART compensatory cognitive training to a variety of populations including individuals with mTBI and/or psychiatric diagnoses.</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to provide clinical consultation and education based on presenting complaints and neuropsychological assessment results to individuals.</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to develop cognitive training plan and provide recommendations to participants</p></li><li><p>Proven experience in administering, scoring, and interpreting a variety of neuropsychological and behavioral measures and conveying findings to individuals in an accessible manner</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to work and treat patients with traumatic brain injury.</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to work and treat patients with psychiatric disorders.</p></li><li><p>Extensive experience working with Veterans, active-duty military populations, and civilians.</p></li><li><p>Extensive knowledge of various community brain injury and mental health services available for referral and recruitment source. Ability to attend local organization meetings to present educational information about mTBI, depression and their relation to cognition as well as provide information about the research program and recruit potential study participants.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated ability to identify and develop liaisons with new referral sources for recruitment of study participants.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated experience preparing neuropsychological feedback summaries and maintenance of patient records.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated ability to work independently and problem solve in high risk patient situations.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated experience communicating findings, recommendations, referrals, and clinical information clearly and effectively to multidisciplinary research teams verbally and in writing.</p></li><li><p>Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, efficiently, tactfully, and patiently in person, via videoconference, on the phone, and in writing to a diverse population including Veterans, active duty military personnel, and civilians.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated strong organizational, analysis, and decision-making skills.
