Job Duties

Up to a $17,500 Bonus for Registered Nurses that are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.

  • $10,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.

  • An additional $7,500 retention bonus will be awarded to new hires. The retention bonus will be paid out one year after hire date and require a one-year written agreement.

8hrs shift with every other weekend

1st shift hours: 6a-230p

2nd shift hours: 2p-1030p

Above bouses are available to Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) that are new to DBHDS or have not worked for at least one year for Department of Behavior Health Developmental Services (DBHDS).

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is seeking LPN's for 1st, and 2nd shifts. LPN's are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shift per week and every other weekend.

The Commonwealth Center for Children & Adolescents (CCCA) is seeking fresh and experienced LPNs for 1st and 2nd shift to provide age-specific nursing care and medication management to child and adolescent psychiatric patients in a safe, therapeutic environment.

CCCA is a 48-bed facility and is Virginia's only public acute care psychiatric hospital for patients 17 and under. We are located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and conveniently located at the crossroads of I-64 and I-81. https://visitstaunton.com

Our mission is to provide high quality acute psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, and intensive short-term treatment that empowers children and their families to make developmentally appropriate choices and that strengthens children's hope, resilience and self-esteem.

The primary duty of the LPN is to provide medication management, including dispensing, administering, and documenting use of medication in patient charts, and ensuring medication rooms are properly stocked.

LPNs work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary treatment team to provide collaborative trauma-informed psychiatric care to their assigned patients.

LPNs assist RNs with monitoring patients, documenting charts, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic milieu; supervising PNAs and serving as positive role models; assisting with admissions and discharges and providing patient and family education, particularly with regards to medications.

Responsibilities also include supporting, and working collaboratively with Direct Care Staff, including working direct care to provide necessary breaks to PNAs, and sitting 1:1 when necessary.

Licensed Practical Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12-hour shifts and (2) 8-hour shifts or (5) 8-hour shifts per week and every other weekend.

The LPN position carries a highly competitive salary and increases based on experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • LPN licensure or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • Current, Virginia license to practice as a LPN or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.

  • Knowledge of illness and treatment modalities to include medication administration.

  • Ability to implement nursing care plan and provide guidance to other staff.

  • Ability to delegate and supervise nursing staff. Effective communication (written, verbal and sign).

  • Ability to participate in interdisciplinary team. Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

  • Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24 hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital which at times may mean working a 16-hour shift if and when necessary.

  • Complete all annual competency training to include Therapeutic Options.

  • Complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association

  • Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care.
