Functions/Duties of Position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works to facilitate patient flow through the Dermatology Department and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient. The LPN assists the medical provider by accompanying them during the medical history-taking and exam, recording details of both into the medical record, and coordinating departmental resources regarding tests, orders, radiology, and results.
Under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Medical Professional or MD, and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, the LPN provides basic care as a member of the patient care team. Patient care activities are related to rooming, measuring, recording, and reporting patient information and performing simple treatments and procedures. The LPN recognizes and addresses age-appropriate needs when caring for patients. In addition, the LPN assists in maintaining the practice environment in a clean, orderly condition including cleaning and stocking rooms. The LPN participates in ongoing professional development and competency assessment, and participates in ongoing quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives. The LPN performs requirements for Staff Members as outlined in Compliance Roles and Responsibilities in OHSU Hospitals and Clinics.
This position provides care to a population with predictable dermatologic needs. As a member of the health care team, the LPN assists providers in caring for patients with acute and chronic dermatologic conditions and provides this care consistent with the OHSU and departmental policies and procedures.
Valid Oregon Practical Nurse License at the time of appointment
Valid BCLS certificate at the time of appointment
Ability to work in an environment with exposure to human tissue, fluids, and radiation
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and handle a high volume of interactions (phones, patients, etc.)
Ability to communicate clearly with proper grammar and spelling, follow oral and written instructions, andnavigate diverse patient/family interactions
Ability to recognize and communicate problems promptly
2 years of LPN experience in Ambulatory care
1yearofexperience in Dermatology
Demonstrated leadership skills
Demonstrated computer proficiency
Proficiency with local anesthesia, wound care, dressing changes
