Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing medical services which require considerable knowledge, judgement, and medical skill based upon principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences.

Summary of Job Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Medical

  • Assists in the completion of new resident physicals.

  • Gather information from incoming residents for health problems and/or injuries that occurred prior to entry.

  • Takes and interprets vital signs.

  • Prepares residents for various medical procedures.

  • Contacts physicians, medical institutions, and specific individuals to obtain information necessary to insure adequate health care for residents.

  • Assists physician and/or Dentist.

  • Receives and carries out Physician's orders.

  • Schedules medical appointments.

  • Assists with administering flu shots, TB testing and the facilitation of CPR training and First Aid training.

  • Counsels and teaches health and hygiene program to residents.

  • Ensures the confidentiality of all medical records according to HIPAA regulations.

  • Performs routine maintenance of clinical equipment.

Administrative

  • Ensures all documents for all medical treatment rendered are completed.·

Update medical files.

  • Assists in conducting monthly inventory of medical supply cabinet in each section.

  • Orders approved medication and supplies as required.

Working Conditions

  • Potential exists of exposure to disease/illness.

  • This is a minimum security facility, therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.

  • May require working evenings/weekend and/or on call.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs on a frequent basis.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and/or via telephone; use a computer, and read routine correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to drive a vehicle in all conditions.

  • Ability to pull, push, and manipulate equipment.

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch; or crawl.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

  • Possession of a valid LPN License from the State of Ohio.

  • Graduate of an approved practical nursing program is required.

  • Possession of current CPR Certification.

  • Two years' experience as a practicing LPN required.

  • Chemical Dependency, mental health, and/or institutional experience desired.

  • Knowledge of general orders, treatment protocol orders; knowledge of inventory control; knowledge of the standard operating procedures and equipment of the Medical Department; knowledge of all emergency procedures; ability to assess potentially dangerous situations and take the appropriate action; ability to make sound and reasonable decisions under stressful conditions; ability to follow specific instructions and guidelines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written reports.

  • Ability to gather, collect, and classify information about data, people, or things.

  • Familiarity with personal computers and standard software packages desired.

  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio Driver's License.
