Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for performing technical direct and indirect nursing care in a clinic, hospital, institution, or home setting for individuals under the supervision or direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. This includes taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, and various other technical nursing tasks in providing health care to patients and others.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Licensed Practical Nurse job family has three levels that are distinguished based on the level of skill required, responsibility and complexity of specific assignments, and responsibility for providing leadership to others.

Level I:

This is the basic level of the job family where employees perform routine entry-level tasks under close professional supervision and in a training status to build their skills in providing nursing care as a licensed practical nurse.

Level II:

This is the career level of this job family where employees are assigned responsibility for performing a full range of nursing assignments as a Licensed Practical Nurse and perform nursing tasks at the full performance level in providing care to patients or clients. Responsibilities will include providing guidance and training to others in completing routine nursing tasks and activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level I:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a licensed practical nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, or Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Level II:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of those identified in Level I plus one year of practical nursing experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Applicants with the Department of Corrections must be willing and able to work any assigned shift or day of the week, and additional shifts as required.

VIEW JOBS 1/17/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-04-16T00:00 POSITION INFORMATION: Provides genetics counseling, assessment, clinic service to patients with documentation and follow-up, teaching assistance, clinical supervision, and research assistance. This position is located within the Department of Pediatrics Genetics laboratory. The laboratory provides cytogenetics, molecular genetics and biochemical services for providers within OU Physicians/OU Medicine health system as well as competing health systems across the state of Oklahoma and the nation. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: * Genetic Counseling. Provides clear and concise genetic counseling to patients. Facilitates with the patient informed decision making about testing, management, and reproductive alternatives. * Case Management Assist physicians in interpretation of test results; identify appropriate testing options for patients; report results to families * Consultation Field queries from and provide guidance to external & internal physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other health professionals. * Clinic Service. Obtain and review medical records; consult with families and referring physicians; obtain medical/family history; coordinate testing; provide genetic counseling and family education. * Documentation. Provides accurate and timely written documentation of medical, genetic, counseling information and medical records to families, primary care providers or referral entity. * Research. May assist faculty in research projects, and write clinical case reports. Submits abstracts for poster or platform presentation to a national meeting. * Outreach and Teaching. Participate in internal and external divisional educational activities. Various opportunities to present clinical/research data on campus and at national meetings. Instruction of genetic counseling students, residents and fellows. * Laboratory Review of internal data, creation of lab results and participation in laboratory case conference. * Clinical Supervision. Provides clinical supervision of MS in Genetic Counseling (MSGC) program students. Participates in the clinical supervision training modules for GCI level professionals. * Memberships. Membership in the national organization, National Society of Genetics Counselors (NSGC) and other related organizations. * As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position. Education: Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) program Experience: 36 months as a Clinical Genetic Counselor Certifications/ Licenses: American Board of Genetic Counseling Certification and Licensed in Oklahoma as a Genetic Counselor. Skills: * Knowledge and understanding of cytogenetics, molecular and biochemical assays. * Knowledge of HIPAA and the right to privacy and confidentiality. * Knowledge of new and innovative approaches to genetic counseling. * Ability to gather, evaluate, and interpret data. * Ability to give full attention to what is being said in order to understand the problem and be able to make a decision which will benefit the patient. * Ability to use logic and reasoning to come up with alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. * Ability to handle stressful situations. * Excellent verbal and written communications skills. * Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. * Must be self-motivated, work independently, and as a member of a team. * Must have critical thinking and innovative skills.
